if you zoom in you can see they are folded over. I have several pics of the same doe (she kinda stands out). freezing was my first thought too but it doesn't get that cold down here, and it just doesn't quite look like freezing to me, I could be wrong but thats why I asked smile

How about a toast to our hosts.

Thanks for letting us share the adventure, Dave and Pam.

Latest news on the WI wolf season is that a group is trying to file an injunction to stop the hunt. Surprise!

Trying to plan a weekend, Pam suggests "giving it heck" at the cabin, try to tackle soffit, fascia, the rippled tin for the ceiling inside the cabin.. Some mowing, trail clearing, wood cutting...

I'm all in.

We have Got to get that stuff done.

It looks like really nice weather for the weekend too, not too blazing hot.

Ryan, the last time I saw a deer with the droopy ears like that, it was cut tendons caused by a cat attack...... whistle

Ok ok ok. I'll quit..... grin grin grin

Work at the cabin you say? I heard rumors of some excavation projects out there as well.

Thanks guys.

Ryan, that deer has skills. I can wiggle my nose and curl my tongue but I can't make my ears do that.

She's just showing off, I'd shoot her if I was you.

I'm sorry if I offended you Craig, it wasn't my intention.

I shortened the quote - not to put words in your mouth, but just to point to what I'd like to address.

First, you didn't offend me. I work freaking hard for the people that pay my rent. Most of the biologists I know do to. You couldn't offend me if you tried! I stand on my record. 25 years of ass busting hard work. Under paid? Yup. I do it because I love it and it is necessary. I honestly love that the forest I leave to my children is better than the one I started with. I don't need any ego stroking about that. And I can't be offended about it either.

"But at times the DNR, has flat out lied to the public." Really? Even the old tired "DNR said there weren't no mountain lions" doesn't really mean they lied. If you had 50 reports of gremlins in the attic, and one came through that was real, would your first answer be that "Yes. On all accounts. There are gremlins in your attic!! Move out! RUN. HIDE!" Think about that. Especially if you previously had valid accounts of gremlins, then trapped a few live ones that were pet releases. How would you respond??

As to "high horse attitude", all I can say is that there are some biologists, foresters, ecologists that have a poor bedside manner. No doubt. However, if you're the deer biologist and you have been ridiculed by "deer shack biologists" for a few decades, do you really expect a thank you note? I respect the biologists I know for just still being here. I'd have quit a long time ago. I'd let the shackoligist give it a stab.

5 years ago we started with a tandem axle trailer full of lumber, a compass, some string and line levels, shovels and rakes.

CBF and I used a compass and stretched a string line for reference. We decided to set the cabin north and south to help everybody in understanding their directions since the trail leading in really throws your directions off.

We started this time of the year and we used the cabin that fall for deer hunting.

That was an ambitious pace.

I think we should be able to get a few things done this weekend if we use that ambitious pace from 5 years ago as an example of what can be done.

grin
