So the VX-6 is Leupolds top of the line hunting scope? Why no side focus or adjustable obj lens. Paralax free forever?

Have they released one in a magnification range that would demand it?

It is etched and is a Wide Plex like in the Leupold FX II 4x33 I had.

They are coming out with a 3-18x that will have a side focus. Scheduled for release in the fall 2012.

Thats the one I want. 2-12 was the highest, I guess it might not require a side focus. I have two Nightforce but I still like Leupold for hunting rifles. The Nightforce are so dang heavy but GOOOOOOD!
Well I will have to see what lupy wants for the 3-18X, it might be more than a 3.5-15 NF!!??

I am waiting for the 3-18 also, as long as it has side focus. I would already have a 2-12 but no side focus is a deal breaker for me.

I have a 2-12 and if it would have had a side focus it would have been a deal breaker for me. Fo a target scope or a high powered scope SF might be nice but on a scope that maxes out at 12x (and I will use it at 2X 100 times more for hunting than 12x) SF is not neccessary or even wanted.

I agree... 12x is about as high as I'd like to go without some sort of AO. I'd probably have about four of the Minox 3-15x42s if they had side focus, but I stayed away from the Leupy 4-12x40 VX2 because I didn't think the AO was warranted. (I guess I should buy a couple of this year's non-AO model.)
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

I've had my VX6 side by side with a hunter's NF 5.5-20x50. The NF worked like a chanmp, but no better than the VX6 I had on a 7mag. I hit everything he did out to 900 yards and back.

I really like my VX-6 2-12x42 that I picked up on Ebay for $660, delivered to my door.
I have it on a Mark V with SS #3 Brux, match chambered 7mm Rem Mag in Talley lightweights.
I don't think I'd want a side focus on this scope. It really doesn't need one, IMHO, and that would just make it bulkier and heavier.
The glass, from what I can tell, is in line with my Z3, Z5 and probably a notch above my Conquests. It's better than my vintage Zeiss and I haven't compared it to a Zeiss Victory that I recently acquired. Reportedly, the Victory may be slightly better at dusk.

Have you guys found the scope is in focus at longer distances...400 yards and out. That was my main concern, that it would not be clear at longer ranges. My VX3's with side focus are crystal clear at any distance. I can see bullet holes at 400 yards. I may have to reconsider this scope based on the opinions.
thanks, gary

8n, at the range, I focus the reticle sharp, then focus the target to a sharp image at 200 and leave it alone. I don't have a problem with the VX6 being focused at those longer ranges. That being said, I do have a VX3 LR 4.5-14 w/sf. Even though the glass in the vx6 is better, with the SF I can get a sharper image at longer distances, vary impressively so I will say. It isn't enough to really make a difference in performance, but it is a fact.

DF Well said. Agree all the way across. I don't miss the SF on the 2-12 at all. It's crystal clear and the eye piece focus is one of the best I've seen. My eyes are getting older (fast) and as an example their VX-R will not focus to be crystal clear for me. I've tried 3 different VX-R models and none will get clear for me. The VX-6 will, as will most of the Zeiss and Swarovski scopes. For the money the illuminated VX-6 is I think the best value out there. And when the 3-18 comes out I'll have one to try out. They had also indicated they would be coming out with a 4-24 (think that's right) but no idea when it might show.
