I finally got around to buying a .17 HMR and will no doubt need to clean it. What sort of kit do you use for that?

I just use a Bore Snake, probably to the chagrin of others on the Fire.

And I might be one of those, having seen a friend get a Bore Snake stuck in a small-caliber barrel.
I purchased a couple of .17 caliber cleaning rods from a local sporting goods store not long after buying my first .17, an HMR. Along with the rods I eventually ended up buying a jag, a brush and a couple of mops. The jag gets used every once in a while to push cleaning patches through several different .17 caliber barrels chambered for cartridges from .17 Mach 2 to the old Remington. The bore-mop is mostly used to install Dyna Bore-Coat in the barrels of the centerfires, which really cuts down copper-fouling.
Oh, and the .17 caliber roads are also handy when cleaning my .204 Ruger, though it's also been DBC treated so doesn't need cleaning very often.

Bought a Dewey 17 cal. cleaning rod, when I got my first 17 HMR.
Was a GOOD excuse to buy a 204 Ruger, since I already had a cleaning rod! (GRIN!)

For general cleaning I use a rod with a Q-Tip on the end of it.
Simply break the 'stem' of the q-tip so that it's about a quarter inch long. Works well.
