This year is my twin boys first season. One is shooting my old 7600 30-06 and the other is shooting a Mdl 70 Fwt 30-06.
I have always used 180 gr partions in the 30-06. They have been shooting both the 150 gr partion and the 165 AB. I have no on game esprience with the 150 gr,but my daughter shot a bull two years ago with her 300 rusam and the 165's AB. Both shoot well in both guns. Shots are going to be close to 300 yds,I'm leaning towards the 165's.

Either one should get the job done.
The 150gr Partition is a popular choice in the .270. It should work just as well in an 06.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a hunting license and that's pretty close.

In an 06 I firmly believe that the 165gr is the best thing since cotten candy. G

I have a buddy who has shot every elk of his for the last 20 years with 165 gr. Hornady's out of his 30-06 and hasn't lost a one.

I'd lean towards the 165 grainers myself and that is what I shoot in my 06, but if they like the 150 grain load better, let them shoot it. My dad killed a 378 class bull shooting 150 grain PMC factory ammo, and it was all over for him with one shot. Either way, if they do their part, they'll be fine.

Sounds like you and kids are all set. Great bullets and they can shoot them well. Will be waiting for pictures (TAKE MORE!) and story of elk on the ground. Best of luck!

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I personally like the 165's in the 06, but if your sons are shooting the 150 partition and 165 accubond's real well, there's no sense in making them change....Just make sure they are dialed in and they get plenty of field practice before the hunt...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I can't imagine terminal performance being all that different between the two. The higher BC of the AB doesn't mean anything inside 300 yards. If both shoot about the same accuracy-wise, why not shoot the 150gr NP for a little less recoil?
No wrong choice, IMO.
Good luck!

Either should be capable. I will be taking an '06 as a back up shooting 165 Trophy Bonded Tipped. What shoots best, you can't go wrong with either.

Went with the 165 AB's just loaded up a 100 of them,25 apice to keep practiced and 25 apice to fill their 4 elk tags and 4 deer tags. Now on to find some clothing any good places?

I like the accubonds as well, good choice. My boy has killed 3 cows with his 270 wsm and 140 accubonds. Confidence is key. I made my boy shoot off a saw horse to give him the true feel after shooting off the bench to check the set up. Good luck.
