Looking for a light weight hiking/small game/"finishing" pistol. For no practical reason I want a single action. For financial reasons im leaning toward Ruger for compactness im thinking the single-six 32 H&R. Is it worth going bigger frame Blackhawk 327? Any experience with the USFA 327? Remember reading an article by Ross Seyfried many years ago about the 32, anyone know where I can get a copy? have a copy they could scan-and-send me? Thanks

I don't think the .327 is available in the Single Six, the cylinder is too short, IIRC. I would NOT get a Blackhawk in .327, it's a large gun for such a round, and the purpose you put forth in your post, the SP 101 is available in the .327, I think, and it would be pretty nice, if you can live with a double action. That kinda leaves you with the .32 H&R in a Single Six, and those are actually pretty good little guns, for what you described (woodsbumming).
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

I saw an article by Bart Skelton recently where he reviewed a custom Bearcat Ruger in .327. Five shot, if I remember correctly.
Neat looking little setup.

By the way, unless he sold it, Bricktop had a Ruger single six in .32 H&R magnum listed in the classifieds recently.

Seyfried wrote several aticles on the 32 H&R. I believe the best was 32 H&R Magnum, a combo for the 80s or something close to that. Another was Fun Guns, both for G&A. You will not like the prices of Ruger SSX 32 Magnums. In West Texas they bring a good price.
I have the Ruger Blackhawk in 327, I use it for called critters and I dont carry it on a belt.
You need to read Seyfrieds article, Believe it or Not, the story of a 38 Special lead bullet flattening against the skull of an elk. If you want the 32 for big stuff shoot them behind the eye.

Looking on Ruger's website - I find only one 327 Mag DA Revolver offered in the models, GP100 and SP101.
I find NO Ruger handguns (SA or DA) 'currently' listed in the 32 H&R Mag chambering.
Though you can still shoot 32 H&R Mag in a 327 Handgun.

32 H&R Mag is pretty much a used gun proposition, or perhaps a conversion. Has been that way for quite a while. That's why prices are so high, if you can find them.

You dont happen to still have a copy of the article? seems like it was Guns and Ammo, he chambered a single shot rifle to 32 as well? article concentrated on heavy for caliber 32 bullet loading?

Thanks for the rifle magazine link, hadnt seen that one. Interesting you say USFA is "beefed" up? Havent actually seen one myself but their website says "scaled down"? Have had couple of their 45 and 38 in my hands feel well built but ive never fired one. Any impressions from actual use? Appreciate any input.

I've seen both the .357 and .327 USFA guns and they didn't look scaled down to me. I have not shot one however Just looked at them in a big shop in Ct. I had a standard SAA 4.75" and have their Flat Top Target in .22/.22 Magnum as well as a SAA in .22 Magnum...they are really nice shooters. This is my Friend's FAs..... .32 H&R, .327 and .32-20.... He was lucky enough to get it very reasonably from a friend of his with the .32 and .32-20 cylinders...he then sent it back and had the .327 cylinder added. He has not fired that one yet. Bob

I would search for one of the Single Six's. They are out there for ~$500 or so. Great little guns and they generally shoot very well. My two do. They also can be loaded to the 30 kpsi level and buzz pretty well, if desired. A 32 Single Six and ~$600 will get you at 327.

You can safely load a single six 32 maggie to some impressive velocities & they are dandy little field guns, I use mine a great deal. Stepping up to the 8 shot 327 gives you a heavier gun but they are superb, a few extra ounces in a sixgun doesn't bother me a bit, I like the added weight. Even though the 327 doesn't have any kick to speak of I like the weight & feel of the gun, just my opinion. Its a gun that I also shoot a great deal & for a sixgun round its very flat shooting, does have a sharp crack when the hammer drops but still, its a dandy. Rock Chucks, rabbits, ground squirrels, badgers, etc. hate them though! Its one of the few calibers that I like best with a GC bullet, the velocities that you can attain can be a little much for the 327 plain base slugs, save them for the 32 maggie. My everyday load in the 32 is 3 grs of WST with a 100 gr cast slug, great little everyday load. In the 327 I'm loading 12.4 grs of H110 with a 125 gr plain base, not a max load because my GC mould still hasn't arrived from Slovenia, dang it!

I'm another Single Six .32 H&R Mag fan. I bought a pair of these about 10 years ago for my youngest daughter to use in Cowboy Action shooting, but she lost interest in that sport.
A couple years ago I started carrying one of these little guns from time to time in the woods, shooting store-bought 92 gr RNFP cast bullets at a modest velocities. Very mild and pleasant to shoot, and an absolute tack-driver even with the basic fixed sights. Since then I've been playing with an 80-gr HP cast design which should be the berries on rabbit-sized game, 'dillos, skunks, possums, and the like.
There's no need to drive the .32 Mag up to .327 velocities, IMHO. It's light and packable and lethal just as it is. If I want something that hits harder than a .32 Mag, I'll use a .38 Special.

I would look around for a use ingle six in.32 mag. It's a great little cartridge and the single six size frame is so light it goes unnoticed till you need it. I used my blued steel one year before last to dispatch a deer that "came back to life" when I went to field dress it. Here are the two I currently own.

Kennesaw... Yes they did (in the late 80's or early 90's), even harder to find than the plow handle single-six's. Was one on gunbroker a few days ago, must have sold as I couldn't find it.
The Bird's head 32's were much more recent.
