Found an early 38-55 today at a gun show. Blue was about 70%, original sights were off of it, but guy claimed to have them, original foreend with a slight crack at the tip, Stock was the right pattern for the age of the gun, but was not original to it, and it had a perfect example of the savage crack. Bore was excellent. The guy was asking $450, but I passed. Was the gun worth that in the condition described?
Curious.

old70, if you are asking about the rifle at the Mason/Ingham Co. fair grounds show, no it was not. The bore was rough, and besides the crack in the forearm there as a significant crack on the bottom of the stock, from the grip back on both sides.
Savage 99's, Fox doubles, and good bird dogs!

Thanks for the input, didn't look that close, asked a few questions, and believed the answers. Had I been in the market, I'd have looked closer. Wasn't really in the market, but got to wondering. Ticked off that I missed out on his Marlin 375 for $350, though.
