Well I am almost up and running with reloading and my started kit came with a lee saftey powder scale. This is the first item I feel I want to replace before I even get started.

So I am looking for a solid accurate powder scale digital or analog it doesnt much matter. I like the idea of a digital scale for ease of use but I am open to all options. So what does the fire suggest for a powder scale?

I also started with the Lee safety model. I went directly to the Redding #2 and LOVE it. Very precise, solidly constructed, and reliable.

I'd stick w/ analog for a primary scale if I were you.

I don't know if that last question about a measure was a typo or in addition to the one on the scale, but I have read in Precision Shooting and elsewhere that once it's going smoothly the basic Lee model is, though cheap looking, accurate. I haven't used it myself, however.

Good luck!

yes the powder measure in the last question was a typo... I meant powder scale. Fixed that. Is there a reason to go with an analog over a digital? Less accuracy in the digital side?

yeah analog is simpler, no batteries, either on or just plain broken.

I disagree. Digitals are more accurate and faster. Get yourself some check weights to check accuracy. I will never go back.

Looks like this is a question along the lines of whats the best caliber. I have my eye on the RCBS Rangemaster 750 right now and it seems to have very good reviews

Any beam scale is fully as accurate as a digital. Beams follow tricklers MUCH better and they are just as 'fast' to use IF you use them correctly. Beam scales aren't quirky, don't drift and will last forever if we don't damage them. I'd strongly suggest a Redding #2, RCBS 502, 505, 1010, Lyman's Pro 500 or 1,000 or Dillon's Eliminator. Other than those I have no idea! wink

I own and have used both. I use my digital now, and when I first got it I checked it with my old RCBS beam scale, then I checked the RCBS with the digital, they're equally accurate. If you go digital, it's still a good idea to have an old school scale around in case the digital takes a crap and to check it once in a while.

Thanks for the offer Les. Right now I am still thinking about going digital. But I have to ask what are you looking to get out of the 505?

I'll load 10 rounds with my beam scale and powder measure for every one you load with the Chargemaster.

Just as accurate too.
