1 minute thanks for the reply. I saw another rifle. This time a C.Sharps 45/70 with dies brass and all. Gun has decent mid-range sight and globe front with level. Looks excellent. Guy wants $1500 don"t know what he paid brand new. Sounds pretty good maybe a little high. Would be a big investment for my pocketbook, but it looks loike quality.

For that price and the way its set up DON'T let it get away.

The C.Sharps you mention in your post sounds like a hell of a deal. C.Sharps the Co as well as the rifles they build are something of an anomaly in the BPCR ranks, but here let me explan.

C.Sharps builds every bit as good and as nice of a 74 replica as Shiloh ever thought of doing. As a matter of fact all C.Sharps rifles are built from forgings where Shilohs are castings. Now some folks will expose at length about the advantages of both and how even forgings where liquid at one time and thus cast in the begining, but that aside I will take a forging almost everytime. C.Sharps has one thing really going against it and that is the owner of the CO John Softstall (sp). This man does not have the best of recomendations going for him, but C.Sharps has been in business a long time so they must be doing something right. But somehow and someway Shiloh got the reputation of being the only or the best maker there was. Well that just ain't necessarly so. Shiloh does have these bragging rights to some extent, don't make there rifles any better, but folks still clam those bragging rights none the less.

C.Sharps builds a fine Sharps replica every bit as I said as good as any Shiloh. The price you quote for a in good shape 74 from them is a damn good price. I personally would not hesitate to buy it.

Thanks for the reply guys. The gun is a Model 75 not a 74 if that matters. It is set up for silhouette being under 12 pounds. He also has two others 74's I believe one in 45/90 and one in 45/120. These are set for long range 1000 yds(?). I think he wants over 2000 ea for those. I thought the 45/70 would be a good one for me after getting advice from y'all. Always happy to hear from you guys and if I can smash the kids piggy bank I'll keep you posted if I get it.

Nick, I agree with Gunny, C-Sharps uses Badger barrels and most shoot very well, they are , in my opinion, one of the few bargains for a silhouette ready rifle.

Also if you decide to do something different later they hold their value better than the Armi-sport, Taylor quality rifles.
