Due to being disabled the only way I can operate my camera is with it mounted to the window of my truck. Makes it pretty tough to stalk wildlife, haven't painted it camo colors yet. I got lucky on this guy, he flushed when I eased my way close to him, but he then came back. First time I even remember seeing a spicebush swallowtail.

Thanks. No fancy equipment here, just a digital canon, SX30IS.

I know next to nothing about the various types of butterflies....

I find it pretty cool that you do! Please feel free to share more pictures as you acquire them!

Maybe three feet. I love the 36x zoom on that camera which I know is nothing compared to what a lot of people here use, but its way better than anything I've ever had.

Pete,
Back when I was a kid, I was an avid insect collector and I would have chased that swallowtail of yours until one of us died!! I have never seen one or know anybody that has!!!
Now I do!!!!! grin

One of these days, I will follow your lead. In the meantime, keep 'em coming--very nice photos!

Thanks. Wish i could say I have a big file of pics good enough to share, but I don't have the skills or knowledge of photography that many here do. Whats kind of neat is that I did discover that I pay a lot more attention to the little things in nature like insects and flowers since I bought the camera.
