Which brings in more light right at dark a new VX 2, 3x9x40 or a VX 3, 2.5x8x36 or can you tell any difference at all

Since the VX2 is a larger scope, it can use more magnification with the same exit pupil size. That will allow you to see further as it gets dark. E

The NEW VX-2's are so perilously close in performance to the VX-3's that I'd say the 2 is better for what you're looking for than the 3 and a better value to boot.

I have one of the VX3 2.5-8 on a 700ti. It has become the standard that I compare other scopes to. I know the Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-15x40 is poor in comparison. I think the new VX2 uses the glass from the old VX-III line.

The older VXIII didn't use Diamond Coat 2 Coatings. The VX2 does. E

i sat in on back back porch one eve and focused on some channel markers that I lasered at just over 400yds from my porch. comparing vx-III 2.5x8x38 with vx-3 2.5x8x36 and also throwing in a vari-x III 2.5x8x36, and a vx-III 3x10x40...with my eyes, the resolution of the vx-3 was the best and the higher power vx-iii had to be on 10x to get equal resolution...i used being able to read the numbers on the channel markers as my gauge of resolution....hope this helps

I do look forward to getting a vx-2 and comparing as well....but havent taken the plunge yet..

If you want one of the brightest scopes for the money get a Leupold FX-3 6X42mm heavy duplex.

I have a VX-II 3x9x40 and I'm very pleased with it. I've never been able to tell much difference between the "2" series and "3" series Leupolds but YMMV.

That is some good info. Comparing side by side on something at a distance with sharp detail is the only way to check resolving ability.

I agree ringman. It seemed like a good comparison...I was actually surprised at how good that little vx-3 really is!.... For my hunting purposes, it would probably suit me 80% of the time.
