Wasn't that what Jean Francois Kerry called it?

Yeah, right, another spectacular quarter of growth, despite hurricanes and 60 dollar a barrel oil.

That Damned Moron/Evil Genius Bush, can't do anything right.

The Economy

The gummint issued its final reading on last quarters GDP growth:

4.1 percent.

Over the past four years, the economy has posted the following growth rates:

4.1 - Q3 2005
3.3 - Q2 2005
3.8 - Q1 2005
3.3 - Q4 2004
4.0 - Q3 2004
3.5 - Q2 2004
4.3 - Q1 2004
3.6 - Q4 2003
7.2 - Q3 2003
3.7 - Q2 2003
1.7 - Q1 2003
0.2 - Q4 2002
2.4 - Q3 2002
2.2 - Q2 2002
2.7 - Q1 2002
1.6 - Q4 2001

Must have been those tax cuts for the rich.

It's funny - in Canada we have a LIBERAL government - and the numbers look almost the same.

Makes you wonder whether it has more to do with world-wide economic conditions than any one party or leader's policies.

We've done it with record surpluses too. No deficit.

It can not last with the growing trade deficit. Mr Bush can do more with help from the left. I for one am tired of supporting other country's. If they eat beans while I eat steak, that is ok too!

The Party out of power always has to moan and groan. They can't let things like facts get in their way.

The newspapers continue to report bleak economic conditions, because if you work at a newspaper, conditions are bleak.

Readership and circulation continue to decline, no doubt partly because they continue to paint such a bleak picture of the economy. It reinforces the common perception that newpapers are out of touch with reality, and are not believable. Believability is a newspaper's stock in trade, and they are throwing it away.

It's funny how liberals make up facts---Here's what the Candian Chamber of Commerce says, Brian:

Ottawa January 4, 2005. In its 2005 Economic Outlook, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce forecasts a year of tempered growth for the Canadian economy. For 2005 as a whole, growth in real gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to average around 2.8 per cent, a slight increase from the 2.7 per cent growth rate anticipated for 2004, but much lower than the expected 3.5 per cent growth rate in the U.S. for 2005.

I don't think "much lower" = "almost the same". Last time I looked, Canda wasn't importing 60 dollar a barrel oil or fighting a war, and I don't recall any hurricanes making it that far north. But nice try, Brian---Merry Christmas and stay warm.

yah might wanna watch that thinking. there is a difference between weeklys and large dailys. sure our cirrculation is down but that has more to do with the population of eastern MT declining than anything. alot of the large dailys are about the same as the major tv networks in the way they slant stuff. most weeklys(atleast that i know of in my state) are much more impartial. well atleast those weeklys im in contact with on a regular basis

I can get the paper delivered to my mailbox. It is just that my mail box is 118 miles away and I only go to town once a month at the mast. I would rather not go at all. I dont take the lying paper.

Marriage should have taught me to never get involved in an arguement with a lawyer!

I'd heard our economy was growing well. One thing I do know, is that we don't have gazillions of dollars in deficits. If you put off payment of today's bills on future generations - it should be easy to make things grow. No?

Anyway, Don't call me a "Liberal" (even though I am socially)I'm voting "Conservative" thanks to the stupid new gun law proposals. Even though the "handgun ban" has an exemption on "target shooters". I guess every handgun owner in Canada will have to get out to the range once a year now.

Be safe, and have a Merry Christmas yourself.

Brian--glad to hear you're voting Conservative, whatever the reason. Maybe you and Kutenay could take a road trip and put up some yard signs together.

I admire Canadian fiscal responsibility, but if you had to pay your prorata share of the cost of the defense of the West, I think you'd either have to raise taxes or go in the hole. And being a net oil and gas exporter, $60 oil and $12 mcf gas have to be doing wonders for the budget---you guys may soon be like a frozen Saudi Arabia.

And we can't even muster the will to drill the ANWR
