I have not had the opportunity to bring one to the table as they are still primarily an urban dweller in our parts. They appear a bit larger than the mourning dove, ought to cook up just as well or better.

we have lots of whitewings I see whitewings all the time in the city, I haven't shot one in the field in probably 10 years. Eurasian doves are year round and do not count against the take. I have gotten a few of them. Good luck to everyone on opening day. I will be out there bright and early.

I have a pair of the collared doves around my place, tempted to buy a bb gun just to kill em.
where I work (state land) we have thousands of doves and it looks to be a good shoot this year, so good I in fact bought 2 boxes of steel dove loads to try it myself. heck I have a license I might as well!

Normal numbers here, no giant flocks but lots of random smaller bunches.
I have never shot one, is 6 shot hard on power lines?
That's the only way I'd ever hit one....grin

The Asian Collared Doves call in easy and cook up just fine. I haven't seen any Mourning Doves for some time though.

I got plenty of Mourning Doves around my property or as plenty as you see in CT, makes no difference, the State calls them a song bird and you can't shoot them. So its a moot point. You can in RI. Nothing I enjoyed more in my youth that my 870 in 28 ga a flat or two of #8's and a field with lots of doves flying around.

I would, but do not know if i could differentiate on the wing doves of the 2 species... is there a way to ID them while shooting? Hold them in your hands and it's obvious...

Collared doves are (at least the ones around here) reddish/rose in color and have a aquare tail. They fly much like a pigeon and are almost as large.
They are actually pretty easy to distinguish from a mourning dove on the wing.

In west Texas they are grey to almost white and smell more likeva pigeon than a dove. Since them and the white wings have moved in we have a lot less morning doves in town. Neither make the nice cooing sounds of morning doves that is so nice to hear.
