I bought this Marlin 336 sight unseen and that's a whole other story.
When I got it, I put a scope on it to do some load testing. Rifle was plenty accurate, the action works fine, doesn't jam. Didn't realize anything was wrong until I tried to shoot it with peep sights....
Houston,..we have a problem.!
That's when I noticed something was amiss. I can't show you how far the barrel is out, but you can get an idea by how jacked up the rear sight is to hit what I'm aiming at.
I clamped the action in a mill vise and centered the mill spindle on the tapped holes on the top of the receiver.
Then I ran the table all the way down to the end of the barrel. Assuming the tapped holes are close the the CL of the receiver, the end of the barrel is close to 3/16 out.!
How could this have happened?
Best I could imagine, either:
1) Barrel is bent
2) Receiver threads were crooked
3) Barrel threads are crooked
4) Combination of all the above
In its current condition, it's uglier than homemade soap. I just can't get over having a sight that far out of whack.
Question is, without seeing it, can something like this be fixed?
If so, what would that entail.?
