Guys, I've owned just about every Remington 700 you can imagine, and that's all I've ever known. However, I do have a colt light rifle in 30-06. I want to sell it but it seems like the smallest things make these worth more or worth less. This one is new and I believe I have the box. It's got a couple handling marks but has never been fired. It's blued with a synthetic stock and blind magazine. What's it worth??

I know where there are 2 new ones still sitting on a dealers shelf priced at $439. Both are in 30-06 I think.
I bought a new one in 300 WM several years ago at $389. Dealer said he wanted them out of his store and sold 2 in that chambering at what he claimed was cost. I liked the gun well enough, but this was before I was into handloading and I couldn't afford to feed it. Too powerful for a 6 lb rifle too. If there had been one available in 30-06 I'd likely still have it.
I personally think they are a good gun and have been tempted to buy one of the 30-06's at $439. I just can't justify another rifle right now. They are a niche rifle, and will bring a good price to the right person. Finding someone who wants one could take a while though.

I would say you're looking at some pretty GD good deals for $439.00 Travis

Yep, I don't see where you could go wrong at that price. I certainly don't think they're going to go down in value. I've got one in 270 for each of my girls, and they seem to shoot pretty well.

It's a regional thing. You can't give away a used Winchester here. Most have never heard of a Colt light rifle.

If you have the box, paperwork, and most importantly, the original scope mounts, your price is in the ballpark. These rifles seem to have not attracted much of a following, tho I believe them to be good, functional hunting tools for the money.

My friends CLR is one of the most accurate .270s I've ever seen.
Handles and balances beautifully but the bolt isn't smooth. Also he has had a few failures to fire so he sent the bolt to Melvin and had him put a new FP spring in it.

I just talked to Melvin a couple months ago. For $1200 and some change, you can have him replace the trigger, restock, and rebarrel all out of the same parts he builds his NULA's. Less than 2 grand you can have the same rifle he sells for $3800.
Want To Buy; Form die for a 7mm Mashburn Super. .284 Hornady AMax 162gr. .224 Hornady AMax 75gr. 22-250 bushing die Bushing die that will work with the 7mm Mashburn Super A couple Glock 42 380ACP mags

In Australia, if you can find one , A Colt Light Rifle will sell for $2000 plus, the Colt importer never imported them but the few that did get here from local gun dealers who bought a few over can get $2000 just for a well used one, Colt sporters are pricey over here.

The failure to fire issue is one of the things that they did seem to have a problem with. Two of the three that I bought for my girls had that issue when range work started. If IRC, a Remington firing pin spring took care of that problem.

I dont think the short action ever happened, Ive got one in a 30-06 and it shoots just well as both my Nula rifles...the original trigger is not bad If I was going to buy one to hunt with I would just use it as is...$1200 is not going to make any difference in the way it shoots ! if I was going to replace anything it would be the firing pin spring, I bought one for mine and never had it installed...didnt need it !

Never were made in a short action. They are the same size as the NULA Model 28. Were chambered in 270 Win., 30-06, 7mm Mag and 300 Win. Mag only, even though the phamplet that came with the gun lists a few more calibers.
Some of the 30-06's were recalled, you had to call in to find out if yours was on the recall list, for some unknown reason it wasn't a range. if the 30-06 was made after the recall there was a slip of paper in the box stating so. If it had been returned because of the recall there will be an 'O' stamped on the receiver under the bolt handle.
I have two 30-06's and had a 270 and a 300 Win Mag... all would shoot an inch or under at a hundred yards. Not really that light, 6 1/2 pounds with the rings.

Can the CLR accept the hs-precision detachable mag and bottom if one wanted to use it on a custom build...

I had one in a 7 mag that was a tack driver, one of the special rifles that shot pretty much any 140 or 160gr load to the same point of impact. I took the buck in my avatar with it. I replaced the firing pin spring with a Wolff spring and the trigger with a Timney for a Remington 700. My only complaint was the safety. It pushed into the fire position way easier than any other rifle I had. I ended up getting rid of it because it happened several times when I carried it slung overy my left shoulder. Sure wish I could have put a 3 position on it, I'd have got a stock from Melvin and loved that rifle.
