Went dove hunting this morning and brought my 9 yr old son with. He has always tagged along carrying his bb-gun. This year as I was getting ready, packing my ammo/field bag he got all excited to be able to go hunting with me again.
After I woke him up, I asked him if he wanted to hunt? Not fully understanding the question, thinking he was going to carry his bb-gun again, I asked him if he wanted to carry a shotgun and HUNT? His face just lit up like you could not imagine laugh
The first area we hit, the birds were not flying so we told my friends there that we were moving to a different area, and did.
We got the the second area, loaded up and waited. It wasn't long before he got to shoot, and he connected on his first shot!!! grin

He ended up hitting 2, we lost one, while I got 4 with 6 shots. I was more interested in making sure he had a good time then getting my limit.

Congratlations to the young man and to you, too. That is a shot that both of you will remember for a long time! Best wishes to both of you for many more enjoyable hunts together.

great when the young'n get to shoot something --

Well we found a back way into and old area- man what a difference construction makes - not a single bird sited in the first hr. - plan B almost as bad - last yr we were the only ones around - by 7 we passed 12 trucks and saw dozens of hunters - few birds flyin and not a whole lot of shootin - i managed 8 but our total was 9 with 2 lost birds for 3 people - I did catch on 3 1/2 ft rattler for the guy who almost filled is pants lookin for a lost bird!!

man i do notlike drivin 100 miles to kill 10 birds but this yrs opener was a tough hunt!

we were going to go up north today but at 10:30 traffic was stopped at Anthem- so we decided to postpone till later - get home ADOT says crash at blk canyon city north bound
glad we turned around -

gotta think its like maybe we should pass and stay home - will see -

Joe, that's outstanding... I remember bird dogging for my dad as some of my earliest memories... then my brother and I getting a 410 to share about your son's age. I killed seven with my first box of shells.

Plan "A" for us was Grand and Deervalley behind the landfill. It usually is a good place to hunt. Not this year.
Plan "B" was Jomax and 134th ave, it worked out much better. We might try Carefree and 32nd St. this evening.
I created a monster grin He keeps asking when we can go back out hunting laugh
What area do you live? Maybe we can get together for a dove hunt?
