For conversations sake...what are guys wringing out of a .22-250 AI using 75 grain pills (specifically Amaxs)??

22/250 AI
27" Hart 9 twist
75gr Amax
H414
3450 fps
More fps there just no desire as it shoots so good where it's at.

I've heard 3500 with shorter tubes and RL 15. But I've never tried it.

Getting reports all over the board! Im thinking of morphing my 223 Montana into one this winter. An Amax at 3500 would be unstoppable...

Might be cheaper to find a 243 and morph that...... Feeding, bolt alterations, etc....

Thought of that too. But I have a half assed 243 AI project on the go already. I figured I could swap mag followers, open the bolt face, and tweak the mag box and be in good shape in 22-250AI mode. But it may make more sense to set the barrel back and just carry on in 223 AI fashion.

I'm pushing them at 3300 fps with H4350 out of a 23" Douglas. I could get more, but it's darn accurate where it is and puts 62 gr ttsx's going 3500 same/same poi/poa out past 350.

Just under 3,300fps in my SAAMI chamber. RL 15 and CCI 200.

Wait, wait....You are thinking going 250AI instead of 223AI?

Better hope you don't get struck by lightning.....(grin)

Ya, I want to send my .223 to Remple and I was originally gonna have him set it back to .223 AI. But 22-250 AI also sounds veddy veddy appealing to me laugh .

Travis- get the [bleep] outta my thread. Im plum suprised you can even interpret my Canadianese....

Thats dissapointing to see. Although a 62 TTSX would fix that problem. And I could just use Amaxs/VLDs for gongs.

I don't know if it's because I'm not pushing them that fast or not, but I've shot a pile of coyotes and not had that happen yet.

Was that entrance splash on the coyote a one time deal or did you have several? I haven't used my combo on anything larger than a few rockchucks but I noticed that some shots were extremely explosive, while others not so much. I wasn't sure if it was an issue of resistance (bone), velocity, or a combination of the two. My impact velocities on those rockchucks was between 3000 and 3200.

Archie
I really like the 75 Amax in my 22-250 AI and my 223. With those 2, I shoot way more steel and rocks than meat. The 223 is fun and easy to make hits to about 600 under average conditions. The 22-250 AI performs about the same to 800.

Wapiti- Steel/Rocks was/is the main purpose of me loading the Amaxs, but I don't neccessarily get nervous about shoving 5 Amaxs down and heading to my Bear stand.

I just know how capable they are at 3050 in my .223...I'd like to try them at 3500 in the same platform laugh
