The post about rebarrelling the 336 to .25-35 got me interested. The new Winchester .25-35s are not exactly what I want. 336s are abundant on the used market.
How many of you have rebuilt a 336? Who are some good sources for barrel work? I really think I would like an octago or tapererd octagon barrel, about 22 inches, and restock it with nice wood, maybe crescent buttplate.

I have customized 4 rifles - a .25-35, a .30-30, a .35 and a .45-70.
Brockman Gunsmithing rebarreled my .25-35 and did a great job. They used a Douglas barrel, 26" med. sporter weight. I mounted the forearm on a straddle block and floated the magazine tube. The barrel is essentially floated, contacting the forearm at only one point. That rifle is wonderfully accurate with Winchester 117 gr factory ammo.
The .35 Rem. was restocked with high quality French walnut, smoothed and rust blued. I traded it for a Pre-64 Win. M70 Fwt. in as new condition, straight up swap.
The .30-30 was restocked in deluxe hard maple, magazine shortened, smoothed and rust blued.
The .45-70 was refinished and engraved.
My latest project is a M95 .45-70 that will be restocked and refinished.

Regan Nonneman in Maryville, MO, will do almost anything to a Marlin lever action that you can think of, as long as it doesn't impact the safe operation of the rifle.

Jeff Jeff, didn't I read on one of your previous posts that Nonneman will convert a 50's vintage 336 SC in 35 rem to .356? I've got a line on one for cheap and think it would make a great conversion. Weagle

Nonneman will rechamber any 336 from 30-30 to 307 or from 35 to 356 that he inspects and approves of. If you have Nonneman do a 35 to 356 conversion for you, you'll probably give up using that 99-358 Brushgun that you're so fond of. The 180 grain Speer would be a nice choice for those little GA deer down in the kudzu of Coweta County.
I have had a couple of 35 to 356 conversions done and am planning to visit with Mr. M next week to discuss the conversion of a couple 1958 "R" prefix 336s to 307 and 356. The 30-30 to 307 is a Sporting Carbine and the 35 to 356 is a Deluxe Sporting Carbine. I almost feed guilty rechambering the the 336 SD, but I figure that since it belongs to me, I can do anything I want with it. Heck, I even drill holes in the odd pre-WW2 vintage Savage 99, so who knows what I'm capable of doing!

Got to love those 356 conversions by Mr N.
I had him do a 1950 pistol grip, half mag carbine for me in 356win. It shot 200gr very well but was terible with 220s and 250s. So I sold it.
I just had him do a conversion on a limited edition ss guide gun in 35 rem to 356 win. He did the rechamber, rework feed, trigger job, decelarator pad, removed the safty, installed a win model71 rear sight and ship it back to me for around 200$. He's an absolute pleaseure to work with and you get unbalivable quality for a very reasonable dollar. It seems to love those speer 220's and hornady 250's now.

Brockman and Wild West Guns and Z-Hat all do excellent work.
A few things you can do yourself, or with you local smitty: STOCKS - Boyd's has replacement stocks for the 336 that come ready for finish, all the way up to exhibition grade walnut, and at very reasonable prices!
WILD WEST GUNS - They have a trigger kit, available also thru cabela's that drops the pull weight to 3lbs. also an improved ejector and some other stuff too. If you want the ultimate in power, they make a conversion to a wildcate cartridge a little more paowerful than the 450 M, but still allows use of the 45-70 too!
NUMRICH - Numrich sometimes has barrels and stuff for the 336. As an example, I have a 336T pre-safety that I had fitted a 24" marlin barrel in 30-30. pretty neat gun, I must say
Psalm 19:14-May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. _ Humble servant of Jesus Christ. Living His plan and praying to show it in name, word, body, and light.

Does Mr. N have a website or contact info?

The nice thing about the 336 is there are several ways you can go....

Google Nonneman rifles and see what you find.
Lee24, I've been having the same thoughts. I'll be interested to see how your project comes out.

I looked at his website and did not see anything about rechambering. Do you contact him for price quotes? Also, there is an outfit somewhere that does reboring on 336's. Anybody have contact info on them? I'd like to get a 30-30 rebored/chambered to 38-55. Don
