I recently traded for a Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle, .280 cal. I plan to mount a Leupold VXII 3X9 scope. All my other rifles have Redfield/Leupold mounts but I want to try the Talley Lightweight one piece rings on this one. Would appreciate hearing your experience with these, good and bad. Thanks.

I only own one set, so I'm no expert. I think they are excellent mounts, especially if saving some weight is one of your goals. The only thing to be aware of is that the low rings are almost exactly the same height as a Leupold/Redfield style base with medium rings. The low Talley LWs should be plenty high for a 40mm objective. The Outfitters Gear Shop here at the Campfire has them at a good price. Good luck Steve

I own several sets and they're great. I've even got a pair on my 375 H&H with a 6x42 Leupy and have had no problems. Very light and well made. I think they're as strong as dual dovetails and a lot lighter. They are a little taller, so stay to the lows if you're going with a 40mm or smaller.

I have a set on my Rem 7600 pump and I like them. I used red Loctite on the base screws so I know they are there to stay. I know heat is needed to break the bond on the red Loctite.

I think I have a pair of tallys waiting for me at the post office. I haven't checked my mail in a long time, but I bought a pair off somebody on the campfire and sent them a check.

I have a set of 30mm and I have to say the fit is too tight for me. I have a Nesika 6mmBR w/NIghtforce 5-22x50 w/talleys. I was worried about marking the finish on the scope since the rings fit so tight. They are expensive and my next custom will have different rings.

[bleep]! The post office is closed today. They won't even unlock the lobby so I can check my PO box.

Badger Ordinance rings scratched one of my Nightforces so Talley is certainly not the only one. I'm going to take Sticks hint (and lap all rings from now on)................DJ

I have half a dozen sets of talley lightweights. They work great, however, there are some issues. They really clamp tight, so they naturally mark scopes. My 2x7 Leupolds I can't use them on because they clamp so tight, the adjustment ring won't turn. I have 2 Conquests that have ring marks that are severe enough that I can't resell the scopes if I would want to. On your Rem 700 long action, there is not enough scope travel so that the eye relief is too far ahead on a Burris Fullfield II. Cost me a deer this year. So, pros: light and really clamps tight, cons: marks scope, and not enough adjustment on long actions. There is however enough travel on the Conquest that it will work on your 700, but just barely.

FWIW:
Had a Set of Leupie Standard Heavy "Windage Adjustable" mounts-I could not keep the scope zeroed.
Swapped in a set of Talleys--Rock solid, Lighter, the scope magically held zero again, yada, yada, yada.
I am sold on Talleys.

cliffs There are suckers here ripe for the picking on ring-marked scopes... (hint)

Personally to avoid the acute devaluation of a ring marked scope, I now omit the top ring and secure them with parachute cord.

Used them for a long time (since 1991) and love the things. Tough and light.
