I have heard good things about the quad lock too... Maybe he didn't mean "tougher" but "classier"?
Talley QRs w/ their integral peep aperture & an NECG front ramp would complete that "North American Dangerous Game Thumper" perfectly IMHO!
Very cool rig, BTW...

toad What difference do you find between the 35RM & the 35 WSM with respect to velocity and powder amounts. Thank you for your time. If you prefer you may PM me. Cheers NC

northcountry, the .358WSM holds ~11.5 grains of water more than the .350 RM and while i shoot RE 15 in the .350 RM and RE 17 in the .358 (so somewhat apples to oranges), i can shoot same weight bullets ~200 fps faster from the .358 WSM.
don't get me wrong, i do like my .350 RM rifles and they do what they are supposed to, but the .358 WSM is a pretty good step up in power.

Northcountry, Toad is right on the Money. Because the 350 RM and 35 Whelen share usable capacities, I'd say that performance is close, and... My 358-WSM run's 225's EXACTLY 300 fps faster than does my Whelen (35 Whelen = 2625fps // 358-WSM = 2930fps) Once you step up into the 250's the 358-WSM will run at 2800 fps. Indeed a realistic step up.

Sooooo.... Loaded up 63.5gr of TAC on top of a Fed 215M and under the 200gr TSX and went to the range. First two shots made it under .5" with the third going higher and making it 1" total. Just fine with me. But the next three looked like a string going 1.75" each going higher than the other. Next group kept climbing about .5" at a time. Head scratcher. Then admiring the gun I noticed the front bell farther forward in the rings than I remembered mounting it. And I saw this........front and back, and in between the top straps on the rings. I guess that "Thumper" and the 19ft/s the rifle recoils at makes the scope jump all over. Monashee laughed at me pretty hard when I told him. Guess I am picking up some Talley's tomorrow and lapping them in really, really good.

That's a joke. The rings look like overkill and are still cool.

Just put some rosin in those rings and a bit more torque and you should be fine. I wish they would make those rings with the split at the centerline. I think that makes a stronger gripping ring. A mounting system which is amazingly strong, especially given its graceful appearance, is the Conetrol. Those rings really hang on. GD

So I was supposed to meet Monashee and his friend at the range today to do some sighting in and talk about the trip that Monashee's friend and I are going on this weekend. I arrived to find a loader and dump trucks where I want to place my targets with a temporary range closure (til 4pm). Soooooo, I came back later alone with the chrony to finish up work on this rifle before the hunt. The new steel Warnes are lapped and well tightened, and the initial 3 shots landed 3" high and a tad right making a .75" group. Great! I set up the chrony, made a couple clicks adjustment and.... 0.435"! I clicked one higher and 1 lefter and that round split the hash mark. 2906, 2915, 2895, 2909fps respectively!

Hey Mo, what you gonna build next ?
If a .350 Rem Mag can make a gut shooter like 338 whinney piss down both legs, a .416 Taylor will no doubt have him chittin his dockers...

Yer Speshul I start to lose bladder control when an 8# .378 Weatherby shows up sans brake. But that said 600gr Barnes originals out of a .458 at 2000fps wasn't bad enough to make me poop from the bench. Though my retinas have never been the same.....

So, is the 350 going for the goat? Right now, I am leaning toward my 308 Norma for mine although the old 30/40 Lee Enfield is in the hunt (lucky gun) as is the 35 Whelen. GD

If you had anything to do with putting them together like this one they will do just fine! The 30/40 sounds very interesting though.....

That is one bad group you shot there. Is that the load you tried with 63.5gr of TAC. I have a 21" Douglas barrel built on a Rem long action so I don't have to worry about short magazine lengths or having to seat the bullets too deep. Mine likes Barnes TSX 225gr with IMR 4320 but I think I want to try the 200gr TSX. That looks like a load I should try.

Its a 2.900" OAL, 63.5gr of TAC over a 215M. These don't crowd the powder or the magazine and feed great in the Wyatts.

Thanks Rem,I think I will have to give it a try. I could'nt find any tsx 200gr so I tried the 225gr and also tried the 250gr Speer hot core which shoots pretty good too. I like the velocity the 200gr has in case I get a longer shot at an elk

The oal with the Barnes225gr TSX is 2.99" which puts it 0.050" off the lands. My gunsmith made me a case for my hornady col gauge. Have you heard of anyone trying RL-17 for the 225gr and 250gr bullets
