Its been so dry, for the last 2 years, I dont know if we will have a good crop of squirrels or not.

Congrats on your hunts

Dog....I'm in Mooresville,,just SW of Indy. The properties I hunt are in Owen County near Spencer. The woods here are very thick, as they weren't affected with the drought situations that we experienced. I used an old 16 ga. Stevens side by side due to the fact that most activity is on the ground now, but the trees are still thick. Mast has already dropped due to the dry conditions,,,,and those grays don't seem to hold still for anything!

My brother has a place outside of Patricksburg. My son lives on the NW side of Indy. I agree about the mast, 80%+ of ours is already on the ground. Still hunting with my .22, but when the squirrels are on the ground, I'd rather use a shotgun, it's safer. Especially if you are hunting with someone else, and you're wearing camo.

I used to deer hunt near Patricksburg. Your son is in Pike Township perhaps?

The nuts have fallen early, for sure. The way the squirrels are acting, you'd think it was early November here. Much prefer my 9422,,,but not willing to jeopardize the safety. Plus this gives me practice for the December bunnies... grin

I live between columbus and seymour. I went hunting last saturday morning and killed 5 with my 10/22 ruger.
The squirrels are still in the trees here, mainly after Hickory and Beech nuts. I try to only take head shots but sometimes on Gray's I will take a chest shot if I cant get them to stop.
