For over two weeks now our oaks have been dropping acorns like wildfire. Most of my mature whites are/were loaded! I for one am glad to see the oaks dropping early in my neck of the Virginia woods as we are almost two weeks from the start of any deer season. I hope the nuts are all but gone by late October!
How is the mast crop elsewhere?

Mast crop is spotty in my immediate area. We had a warm spell in March and the oaks blossomed early and got hit by hard frosts later on.

We have bagged some wild turkeys this past week and all but one had acorns in their crop. If turkeys are finding acorns you can bet the deer are too.

Its looking like a fairly heavy crop up here, I rather think that very good and very poor are bad for hunting, I would rather have spotty..find the spot... find the deer

Good crop here in OK, especially with the drought conditions of the last 2 years. Started falling 7-10 days ago...

Loaded in Martin and Okeechobee County, FL. Some have fallen , some still the size of a pea. Gonna be a strong crop from now til January. Too bad my hunting ground has a foot of water standing in most places :-(

Good acorn crop in upstate of SC, and they dropped 'em early, too. Most of them are fallen and glad we have our food plots planted and doing well. A few weeks from now when the acorns are gone they'll be deer magnets.

I sometimes can't decide whether I love or hate a healthy hard mast.

Either way, I bet Jtown will have his ass parked like Sittin Bull over his turnip
green patch.

To much is alot worse then to little to me...it really does limit how much deer need to travel to stay fed... I reckon for folks that hunt behind a tractor it may not make much difference....

I guess the biggest plus is overall herd health during heavy mast years.

My idea of being organic is taking a dump in the woods.

I'm from Radford area but live in Charlotte NC now. Haven't been back to check but I know where I'm hunting anyway. Same places for years. Heavy acorns are sometimes good, sometimes not. More important to put the time in

Actually that will be for later in season. This ass hole told me about hunting near honey locust trees and how the deer love the honey locust pods. That ass hole was right! Thanks Stovepipe where ever you are.
