Small 8 point. 120 yards broadside. Ran (with tail up) about 30 yards( IE no sign of initial hit). Lots of internal damage. Tons of blood when gutting. No meat damage. 50 Beowulf, 275X at 2140 fps. Hope to post internal pictures later. Also owned this land for almost 45 years and first deer ever! Pics are buck, entry and exit wounds. Thought ya'll might like the info. The buck isn't much to brag on but I'm happy-- been chasing this one to make sure he's legal, since Mid October. [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

Maybe this'll work somehow.... Anyway if its a problem let Bill know about it. You do know about the new 50 beowulf site?? Bill has popped in a few times.
Thanks for the info on the stocks. I'll get to lightweight that I desire soon enough. Might have to stick the brake on then though. Time will tell. Also need to sit down and compare BC vs MV and may switch to a heavier X before its done.

Congratulations, Jeff! Any buck can be a trophy considering circumstances. The pics didn't come through but that's no biggee. Glad you got the Beowulf bloodied. Hope I can follow suit soon. I did kill a pig or two with mine already but no deer yet. In Iowa we never had a rifle season until this year (Doe only in the southern two tiers of counties in January.) and the magazine and caliber limitations will make me leave my AR's at home. I think I'll use a 1891 Argentine Carbine and give 'em a chance.

Sounds like that 275 load is a good one for you. I picked up a box of factory stuff at Cabela's last week and will run them all through the next time I make it to the range. If I get any failures to feed/fire out of their ammo, Alexander Arms will get my upper back for rework. I noted how you said yours was canted between the barrel and scope. I've not noticed anything like that with mine, but it sure does jam! And sometimes it'll shoot great and others not. Who knows??!!

Congrats again!!

NICE!

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

RickyD, I'm curious what the restrictions the IDNR is putting on the rifles. When I lived in Iowa the laws sure did seem goofy for a lot of things when it came to hunting.

Them's some impressive holes! If I were you I'd see how the load shoots at 200 yards for drop and then decide if I need more bc. That 275 grainer obviously opens up well! Showed the same on the pigs I introduced mine to.

I don't know about the Beowulf site but I'll be googling to find it. Any good load info? He tried to steer me away from Lil Gun to 1680 but you seem to have good fortune with Lil Gun. And with a canted barrel. Sounds like good clean living to me! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Have a great New Years!!

PS: nice shirt!

Ricky- link might help!

http://www.50beowulf.com/forum/

Drop was about 9 inches IIRC at 200 from about 1.5 inches high at 100. I'd rather have a bit more weight to the bullet since I'm thinking elk, and moose in the future. I think the trade offs are there. The bullet should open to 1200 fps which is pretty long range. And it will help more in the wind. The 275 could be pretty affected by stiff wind -- I haven't run the numbers yet though. But low BC and not very fast. Time will tell.

Off to skin and take internal pics.

Jeff

Rost!

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!

I ain't a .50 Beowulf fan, but I dadgum sure like to see folks hunting with the service rifle...or somethng similar anyway.

Possibly, just possibly a lighter and faster bullet would have dropped the beast quicker, but then many of us have seen perfect shots taken with a shotgun slug, and Bambi still ran 100yds.

I can't see any reason to not like what happened.

Also, Quit apologizing for the Buck.
Every one of them taken is a trophy, and a gift.

Heck I had an old Doe that kicked my Butt several times one season, and make me Buckless.

I made it a point to nail her hide to the Barn.
She busted me for 3 of 4 encounters.

She was too tough for cuts(Couldn't stick a fork in the gravy without bending the fork!!!) so she turned into the best Jerky and Sausage ever!

Congrats!

Thanks for the comments. I'm not overly convinced that big bullets drop deer. I'm sure I could have popped him with an ultra fast light bullet in that same location and had a bang flop. I don't care. I like blood trailing. Its the bowhunter in me. Part of the game. At least I know I can shoot end to end with this round.

On the size, that buck is barely legal here. We have a minimum spread rule and he makes it by 7/8 inch. But was 4.5 years old and what I'd consider a cull.

He will eat fine for backstraps and sausage though. Right on that account.

E4E--as to apologies, about the most meaningful mount in my house is a bow killed doe. Ruined my wifes bowhunts for a month till I managed an arrow into her, long story, miracle that got to draw on her, she jumped the string, but still recovered her. No one looks at the doe much, but I know what she meant. More work than I 've ever had on any buck I've killed. And bucks are way easier to draw the bow on.

Next test on list. 6x6.8spc. Should arrive Wednesday for time to play a bit.

Good job Jeff! My wulf upper should be here today! A little late for deer season but I might introduce it to a pig.

Can't wait to see the internal damage pics.

More damage photos. Did not have time to click the actual organs, but suffice to say the heart was intact, but the lungs were kinda like pulling jello out with lots of blood.

What should follow is probably links only and should show, skinned deer with entry and then exit, then entry from inside and same with exit. Would have preferred the round did not hit ribs just to see, but it definitely did not blow up.

Kinda looks like the aftermath of a shotgun slug. They drop 'em too!

Cool!

Jeff,

Did you mount a scope rail on your upper and then rings on that? Or just rings directly to the upper? I'm not sure what direction I should go with my .50 upper. I've been thinking about slapping some high Leupold Mark 4 rings directly to my upper and being done with it.

Skinny

I had a rail on there and didn't like the extra weight. Since my bore is off line with my center I then went with high Burris pos aligns and shims.(couldn't zero the elevation with the rail on there, or get the wind centered).

The Burris solved the problem but the scope is still about 1/2 to 3/4 inch too low.

Now I have a White Oak Armament rail thats solved all the problems. I"ll have to try to clip a bit off here and there to cut the weight though since I'm trying to get the gun as light as I can.

I'd say if you go rings only you'll need extra high more than likely. I'd prefer to go extra high only , but need the shim effect so no dice there.

Jeff
