Maddog that would be a good candidate for the Limb Chicken Chowder, The next time to go out take a Crow call with you get a good rest and when the squirell moves thru an open spot blow the call one time sharply. He will freeze in place. Now you have a few seconds to shoot. It can also be used to get them to come down from the top of the tree to try and find out what what the hell they just heard. I don't walk around the woods blowing the call but use it to get them to pause for the shot.

killahog, I'll try the crow call. Thanks!
Otis, you don't have to go very far south of where I live, and you get in to a lot more greys. I have 2 places I hunt that have greys, everything else is rural woodlots [5-25 acres], and they are all fox.

SC public land game zone 2 opens tomorrow. It's supposed to be raining, but I'm going anyway. Already put in for the day off. You all are making me jealous.

Was out most of the morning. It was wet and soggy but nice to be in the woods. I confess to missing about as many as I got. But it sure was pleasant. Might have to get a few more and make up that chowder recipe posted below. Ella

Feel like we ought pitch in together and ship you some squirrels. They not have any out in Montucky?
Bet ground chicken'll work out pretty good.

Actualy we DO have Red Fox Squirrels...in town where you cant hunt them....they are however a 'non-native' species and are hence unprotected...sure hope none of them get into my Havahart trap..... I started feeding them today, in about a week...they will reciprocate BTW I ate the Chowder for supper...it was not only the BEST soup Ive ever made, but the BEST Ive ever tasted. No Schitt...

Congrats Tom! It is a helluva recipe. I personally think you could use any dark meat like chicken, pheasant, rabit, turkey, as well as squirrel. When I make some in a coupla weeks, I'm gonna add more whole kernel corn to it.

Best soup EVER is a tall claim. There's a lot of good soup out there.
Am have to test that recipe myself (w. a little extra corn).

maddog MD: I did throw a whole can of corn into it, and a couple other slight m,odifications to make it fit in my crock pot. The only real change, and I think it was a good one is that I subsituted a can of evaporated milk with a can of condensed milk...mad it a touch sweeter. It truly is the BEST soup Ive ever tasted!
