Have any of you run the new Berger 87 Grain VLD in a 6x45 yet? Im going to (in the distant future) be building a 6x45 off a rem 700 action in a light contour barrel with a 1:10 or 1:9 twist. I still have yet to measure the mag box on the action on its way to me to see what theoretical OAL could be. I have a 6x45 1:12 in an AR platform and think the caliber would be great for my kids learning to varmint hunt and possibly take white tail with in a bolt action.

I want to flame a deer with one this year but haven't bought any yet. The mag box is as long as you want it to be for a short action (2.8'ish).

I'm running a 1-8" twist on mine, can't see a downside but I wouldn't go 1-10"

I'm on a search for the right donor rifle for a 6x45 myself. Already have the dies and 500 cases of Lake City brass ready to go. I was thinking a Shilen barrel in 1-10 but maybe I'm wrong. Was planning on Sierra 60 grain HP for coyotes and 85 Sierra sp's for deer. Would really like to know how those Bergers work.

Have you tried running 60-70 grain bullets in that 1:8 twist 6x45?

I went 10" with mine and am happy. 9 would be good too. I'm planning to let my daughter use the rifle next weekend during our youth season. I got the rifle back from IT&D two weeks ago and started messing with loads. Short term, I've settled on the 80 TTSX for her first deer. TAC gave me excellent velocity and accuracy. I'm getting 2815fps with no signs of pressure.

First group with the load.

I will add my intended bullet for the rifle is/was the 80gr DeepCurl. I've not seen any available yet though.

The 87 VLD would be fun to play with too. I don't have any experience with the Bergers yet. I'm guessing I would need to do some mag modifications. The 80 TTSX is plenty deep in the case as is.
