I picked up an SPS tactical in .223 a month ago, but haven't been able to take it out. With snow flying and Coyote season coming, I wanted to try some loads and sight it in.
I have modified it a bit from stock, replacing the Hogue with an HS precision stock, and installing a Jewel trigger.
I started off with some of my old reloads, and shot. 3 shot group of about .75" with the first 3 shots.
Then I broke out the 70 grn VLDs with 24 grains of Varget. I haven't measured the group yet, but it's around 1/2".
The weather looked to be going bad, so I jumped to my 24.7 grn loads, and they shot around .75", but I started to get pressure signs.
I then moved on to my Coyote loads, and started with 53 grn Vmax over 26 grn of benchmark.
My load development was over in 5 shots.
By far the tightest 5 shot group I've ever shot.
I didn't expect load development to go so fastl, and only brought 5 of each load...but hopefully the next time out they shoot just as well.
