Shadow9 look up the serial number on your #1 in very early years of production ruger was out of southport before they expanded to Newport and Prescott so I would say your head isn't in your ass Actually it is. And so's yours. The Newport, New Hampshire production facility was specifically set up to produce Ruger No. 1s and Model 77s back in 1965-66. (Other items were added later.) The Southport, Connecticut facility only manufactured revolvers, .22 auto pistols, 10/22s, and .44 carbines until it was closed and production of those items shifted to Arizona and New Hampshire. Quit wasting everyone's time, dickheads.

The only Ruger No.1's that may have been made at Southport were the 7 Prototypes. If you have one of those, I would certainly like to know of it. They are serial numbered X-1 through X-7. Other than those seven Prototypes, NO No.1's were made at Southport. What has looking up the serial# got to be with it being made in Southport-unless it starts with an "X". Where do you come up with c--p??

I have recessed the safety into the tang and it is a job you have to want to do but it works out OK. One can also just bend the safety so the front is riding on the tang rather than sticking up. Then, taper the front down a bit and shells will clear. They will then hit the nose of the comb and put dents in the stock but a reduction of ejection force will help that. GD

Interesting. I have the same outlook because I am a retired academic.

I am neither an academic nor an infantryman nor have I ever protrayed either. I do, however, spend a considerable amount of my days dealing with people who have elevated passive-aggressiveness and self-centeredness to fine arts. Therefore, I don't suffer fools gladly.

I can recommend the Trop #1 safety. I've got two of 'em. They DO require some careful file work to properly fit them. And if you're going to do any trigger work, i.e. tuning/adjusting or replacement, you MUST do that first before fitting the new safety or you risk ruining the safety by removing too much metal that you might need back after doing the trigger work. P.S.: Hey Bricktop: You suck! Just kiddin'. Seriously, thanks again for the good advice when I was fighting the accuracy problems on my #1AH.

It would seem that they have no rebuttal to your factual statement other than silence. Hooah!

Skeez, greydog - thanks, that was some rather Helpful info. Been thinking of doing that, but still a bit tedious that I would even have to with a rifle like this.
As for the serial #/age - definitely a new model - one of the ltd. Lipsey's specials. Acquired NIB about 2-3 weeks ago.

I have not been on the Single-Shot forum for a long time. Mostly I left because Bricktop had the apparent need to teach all of us profanity and how not to deal with his fellow man in an ignorant fashipn.
Count me gone again. I truly do not need this sort of thing in my life.
God Bless all,
Steve

I've suffered the same safety interference with a #3 45-40 and a #1 45-70. I installed Trop safeties in both with drop in fit and perfect functioning and no brass hangup.
