On this forum the question "How do I post my photos?" comes up quite often. As a result, I thought that I would outline the basic procedure and have it made into a sticky at the top of the forum. I will base my directions on the use of a Photobucket account since it is free and fairly popular.
1) Enroll on a free photo hosting website to upload pictures to. Most people use photobucket since it is free and easy to use so my directions are based on them.
2) Once you have your Photobucket membership, upload photos to the site from your computer. Do this by clicking the "Browse" button near the center of your screen. This will bring up a window you use to find the pictures you want to upload. (Typically pictures are stored under C:\...\My Documents\My Pictures, but it could be different on each computer). Double-click on the image file that you want to upload. You will see the file address show up in the "Picture" dialog box beside the "Browse" button you just used. Now click "Submit" just below the dialog box. Your pictures will be sent to your photobucket account. It may take some time depending on the size of the image file. If you have more than one image to upload at a time, click the expand arrow (the little "down" arrowhead button) on the "Submit Multiple Pictures" dialog box and select the number of images you want to upload. Follow the same steps for each image as outlined above.
3) Now your images should appear near the bottom of the page. They will be thumbnails that you can double-click on to expand to full size if you want. Underneath each image there will be three dialogue boxes (A Url, a Tag, and an Img box) with text in them. For the purposes of posting a picture here you will only be concerned with the "Img" line. (The URL line can be used in your profile to submit a picture for your avatar, but I am not going to get into that here.)
4) Single click on the IMG text in the "Img" dialogue box. This should highlight the text. Copy this text (Either by using Ctrl+C or right clicking and selecting "Copy").
5) Paste what you have copied into your post here. It should show a [IMG] at the begining and the end of the line you pasted. Make sure that there is a space between your post text and the [IMG]'s (no spaces in the part you pasted, just between what you pasted and the text of your post).
6) Finish off your post and preview it. Make sure the photo is there and then submit your post. If the photo is not there, check your pasted link to make sure you didn't miss a bracket somewhere or inadvertently put a space in the line somewhere.
That should be it. I hope to see all of your great pictures soon!

SS Thanks for the work! I made a few minor changes... hope you do not find them too heinous...
Would add the magic trick to prevent the photo from showing up too wide and making everybody scroll back and forth is done before the picture is posted to photobucket.
Resize the photo to 760 pixels and it will be optimized for the net. art

Thanks SD. I actually couldn't really tell where you changed anything. I forgot to put the part about resizing them in there. That's a good point. It will also save time when uploading the pictures. Especially if you are uploading multiple pictures and they are large.

I appreciate your instructions but I got lost after item 4. Must be half-heimers. Once I click on open do I close Photobucket? How do I bring up photo on my post? Do I click on the inage code & type in the user prompt or type in the text? Neither seems to work. Hunting is easier than using computers for us old farts. Thanks.

Usually what I do is open my web browser twice, one for photobucket and one for this site. What you want to do is copy all the text that is in the IMG text box under the photo you just uploaded to photobucket and paste it directly into your post here.

Way to Go I knew you'd figure it out. Now just another tip..Don't delete from Photobucket unless you don't want us to view your pics anymore. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Nice kitties. You still don't have the photo posting quite right, though. You have those image brackets before and after the pic. Your post should look like this except without the spaces: [img] photoaddress.jpg [/img] If you use the Instant UBB image code below the post window, just past in the address, don't type in the [image].

Some of these are not crisp and clear but you'll get the basic idea. 1st of all..Got your pictures uploaded to your computer? Great then lets see if this adds to the help already listed above.
Everybody uses a diff program but it's all the same basic principle. Start off with resizing..I use the microsoft image resizer. Open your pictures folder
Right click on the image you want to upload to 'Photobucket' or picture hosting site of your choice.
pick the option of resize and then
I usually choose the top option. Ok now you download them to your photobucket site(or the one of your choice). All set on to the next step of posting them at the Campfire. Remember this is Elf's way and in no way shape or form am I saying it's the best way it just works for me. So we bring up the post that we want to add pictures to. It should look like this..
I pick Image from these choices
From my photobucket site I pick this. Click on highlight, right click and pick copy.
You can also just copy the "Image" line from photobucket and paste it directly into the message. That saves you having to use the "Image" button and copy the "HTML" line into that box. The end result is the same, just saves a couple of steps.

Yes thanks Sam. It was kind of a very bare bones picture by picture thing when folks get the hang of the basics they can then fool around with the posting thing and do what they feel comfortable with. AS I know from experience "SOME" and I don't mean all guys only see the top line of anything when it comes to instructions. Kinda why I went with that step. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
No worries. There's more than one way to post a picture... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Well I got to step 5 but nothing happens when I rt. click copy. How do you make the link from photobucket to 24hr? Way too complicated! Sam left out some steps.

Hey, I'm not an English major. What did you expect? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Seriously, I posted every step that I do. In step 5 what you want to do is copy the image line from the photobucket site (underneath the picture you uploaded) and paste that line into the post that you are making here. It should paste here exactly like it is in the "image" text box on photobucket. YOU WON'T SEE YOUR PICTURE UNTIL YOU PREVIEW YOUR POST. I think a lot of people expect to see it immediately. Paste the line in there, finish your post and preview it. If your picture is already on photobucket, it is a simple copy and paste deal. Takes me about 2 seconds to post a picture if it's already uploaded.
If you have specific questions, pm me and I'll try to help.

Elf, and/or everyone in the know, I'm trying to get my images into Photobucket. After I tap "browse," double click on the images on my harddrive (zoombrowser ex), and hit the "upload" button on Photobucket, I get this message: "The file "deImg110.dll" does not have a valid image extension. Valid image extensions are: gif, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, swf."
How do I add said "image extensions?" I don't know how much this matters, but FWIW, I'm using Windows XP home ed, and the software that I downloaded with my new Canon blaster (zoombrowser ex 5.6 and EOS Untility 1.0). My Photobucket account is the basic free one. A frustrated thanks in advance, 222

BTW, I was able to forward one of my photos to a pard's email via the "email images" feature on zoombrowser. I assume that he had to click on an attachment, but at least the image made it to his house. Baby steps......

okkkkk..so your saving them after you open them but before you upload? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> You need to save it as .jpg, jpeg etc when the option to 'save photo as' pops up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
I guess that what I did-------------not real sure. I plugged in my new blaster to my 'puter, downloaded the images, and it saved them. I also made a copy to disk.
Since my last question, I've also downloaded Picasa2 in case that makes life easier. So far, just more options.

It sounds like the file extension (*.dll) is for your Canon program. When you open the picture on your computer click "Save as" under the file tab. It should give you the option of changing the file name and under that there should be a box for the file type. Change that to a .jpg or any of those listed in your post and save it. Then you should be good to go for uploading.

Well, I edited post and this time I clicked on the "IMAGE" spot where you preview your post and pasted the IMG line in there and it worked, but you see the [Image] on each side. Originally I just pasted the IMG line at the top of my post and all it did was show the text when I previewed it.I'm happy I got this far and this should work ok, but it seems I'm missing something. Am I?
Sounds like you might have had a bracket or something missing your first time around. Maybe you missed one when you highlighted it to copy? You shouldn't have to use the "IMAGE" button when you post. Just copy the whole IMG tag line from Photobucket and paste it in your post. The reason you have the [img]/[/img] on either side is because they are already in the tag line you copied so in essence you have two of them. Only one set is needed, so the other just turns into text on either side of your picture.

You were right , I just posted a picture in the classifieds for some ammo and it came out great. When I first tried the picture of my sons deer I had to drag mouse across IMG line so I bet I cut off the front bract or something. When I tried again,I clicked on line and it all highlighted, then I just pasted into post and it worked. Thank you so much for the help. Now I can back-up my BS with pictures (sometimes) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

[img][image]C:\My Documents\aaaaFish1.jpg[/image][/img] When I view this post, I see the photo. Does anyone else see it, or just a red X?
Thanks again

Try copying the IMG code and pasting it on the page you want it to appear on. There won`t be a seperate submit bullon it attachs and appears when you submit the page here

I'm still stumbling my way with this new Mac. Anybody know how to Copy and Paste with a mouse that doesn't Right click?
SOS
I've been away from my mac for the summer, but if I remember correctly, push ctrl/c at the same time to copy, then ctrl/v to paste. If I'm wrong, I'll be back at the mac on Thursday, I'll let you know by then.
when I send pictures to my children I just go to photobucket and type in their email address can't we do that here to Does this site have an e mail address ? ADK
When you click on "share" above your down loaded pictures it opens to an area which allows you to put in email addresses I down loaded my address book so i don't even have to memorize the addresses. It allows you to post to facebook or my space, too etc. So easy for us oldsters that can't cut, paste, move, minimalize, and move, in order to share our pictures. Hopes this makes sense

This may be overly large sorry but I can't believe I just posted ADk oh this is my back yard last fall all the stumps are from the trees we cut to build the house
This was just way too easy. Couldn't use the resizer for my Micrsoft as I am running Vista. Is there another way to optimize for the 760 pixel ct? I really don't know what it is right now.
When you upload your photos to photobucket, you might want to opt for a smaller size. They have those options on the screen when you choose the photo to upload. Photobucket also allows you to edit your photo.
I'm having problems uploading photos from my hard drive to Photobucket. The pix I posted above was uploaded to Photobucket from my old Windows 98 computer. That's the only photo I have on Photobucket. In trying to upload pix from my new Windows XP computer, I get an "Upload Failed" message every time I try. Lost with Windows XP somewhere, and read the help section and can't identify what is keeping me from upolading pix. I just uploaded several photos to Hunt101 with no problem, but I don't know how to paste them from Hunt101 to 24 Hourcampfire.
Don that link is not working. Are you still having trouble getting the images into photobucket? If you like I could give you a call and try to walk you through it.
Glad I could help Don and Holy smokes you weren't pulling my leg about that group! Any time you want to come up and chase some dogs just drop me a line. Dave
Well, you might not be liking your computer right now, but I'm loving mine! Right now it's treating me to a great photo of some really, really cute kids. Being a red-head myself, I have to say I'm very, very partial to the second photo!

Huntinhard, Just a friendly suggestion. I see you are using photobucket. If you select a smaller mp size before you download, it won't be too large for the screen, making users have to scroll back and forth. Since I use a laptop, my screen is smaller, so others might not be experiencing the same problem I am.

It's good to see that this post helped a bunch of people get their great pictures up here. Who would've thought we had so many good photographers in our midst?

wow it worked! gotta say i am a member of several forums and this one gave me the most grief about posting pic's. i was trying to use the direct link like i always do, but it just left a link, no pic, other forums it shows up??
Photobucket is a confusing bunch of bullchit! Way too complicated for an old flatlander to figure out. The paste word never goes from gray to black. A lot of wasted time!
My home is the "sanctuary residence" for my firearms.
Forget the cheese ; just let me out of the #@%^&* trap ! I been trying for hours to get a picture from my desktop to my photobucket account and can't .
Even if I made that trip , doubt I could get it to the 'fire .
Are their any other sites besides photobucket ? I don't mind paying if it is more user friendly for an old guy .
I'm determined NOT to ask my kids [ or grandkids ] to help me .
I'm trying to get the hang of posting pictures, is there a way to copy from a Kodak easy share program or do I need to put the images in Photo Bucket? I've tried to paste the code from the easy share program but the 'fire site says I'm not using the proper form. Any ideas? Thanks, David
Thanks Slider, but when I try, doing exactly the same as when I posted the above pics, it won't take the image code-keeps sayin "appears to be using wrong form" Frustrating.
Might as well try it and see,...don't cost nothin'. Don't know about SmugMug but some folks here post photo's hosted at sites other than Photobucket and it seems to do just fine for them.
I tried to post a photo using the photobucket URL, would not work.
