I think the only Model 70 in particular shooters tend to avoid is the one I have for sale.

I guess it's whatever floats your boat. Personally, I think the Pre-64 M70s are highly overrated and I would take rifle built on a Mauser action well before a Pre 64 M70. Just my personal choice, that's all. I had a few Pre-64 M70s and sold them all. Kept all my push feeders. The worst POS M70 that I've ever owned is a New Haven Stainless Classic in the pre-64 style chambered to the .338 Win. Mag. I have several push feed M70s that came from the factory with what appear to be McMillan stocks but that Stainless Classic has the worst piece of tupperware garbage I've ever seen on any rifle. Frankly I'd rather it had a Ramline stock than the POS Winchester foisted off on the public with that stock. Paul B.

Redneck, I am not familiar with the cap-breech, can you explain? A pic is better: Note the breech bolt design - it has a pinned 'cap' at the rear, just behind the safety. Under that, is the cocked indicator which is part of the firing pin. I've just never cared for the cap-breech M70s.. Here's a modern breech by comparison - note the difference, the breech is a one-piece unit w/o any cap: I never saw a cap breech gun. I think they look kinda slick.

So the ones made in 64 are okay. Good news.

I bought a 2007 M70 pushfeed in .300 WSM from Wal Mart for 379.00. It would shoot a .75 group right out of thr box. The late Roger Bounds slicked the action, fixed the trigger, floated it in the factory Super Shadow stock. It will shoot .50 groups. I have taken it to Africa twice and it performed wonderfully shooting 200g partitions. I'm looking for another one. FWIW, I have some of the CRF models too, but they won't shoot like the pf.
The F-4 Phantom II is the standard of excellence that all modern fighters are measured by. Sign on the wall at the factory in St. Louis.

I've had a handful of the Ranger series, and still own a couple.
They are fully the equal of the rest of the pushfeed series, except that the XTR had a much nicer finish.
The Rangers with the floorplates were featherweights.

My best advice is to avoid all makes and models.......
Once you start buying/shooting model 70's there ain't no turnin' back. Shoulda listened.
