This may be an obvious recommendation, but have you tried using a backpack as a rest rather than a bipod? After trying both ways, I've given up using my bipod for anything but propping my rifle upright while sitting in a ground blind.

Both were taken w/o the use of the bipod. I rested on a tree limb for #1 and in the Y of a tree for #2.
