CONGRATULATIONS on a GREAT Shiras bull!!!!! He's got it all, good fronts, wide paddles and lots of points!!
You did well. Sounds like the pack out was tough, but well worth it when you consider all the good meat you will have in the freezer. Any idea on how much meat you will have off a critter that big?
Looks like you guys were well prepared to handle meat too...good game bags, pack frames and enough rope to hold the meat on the packs. Way to go!!!
Oh, nice looking yard too.

Oh, nice looking yard too. We are guessing 350lbs when we are done. We basically took about everything there was except the ribs. Thanks for the compliment - the hunt was a lot of fun.

Tom

Congrats, that Hornady bullet made some entrance hole! Yeah, I didn't realize how thick the skin on a moose is, but the bullet started to expand when it went through, for sure. THe heart was totally destroyed, nothing but chunks left. The lungs got a lot of rib bone shrapnel. I'd use them again, but I am going to load some 140 TTSX as well.
Regards,
Tom

Good job. So you couldn't take your Rhino in to get him out? How far was the pack?

Good job. So you couldn't take your Rhino in to get him out? How far was the pack? We were in a non motorized area, so couldn't take the machine in. The packout was about 3/4 of a mile one way. The hardest part was the climb out of the draw where I killed him. A pretty steep climb of around 1/4 mile, then flattened out. I use canvas drop cloths from home depot for wrapping the meat. An antelope or deer will fit in one, or two for a big deer. We used 5 on the moose. I am cooking the first roast today for dinner - I hope it will be good as there are a lot in the freezer now.
Regards,
Tom

nice job!
Would love to get out and do that sometime!
I'd rather have a bad day hunting than a good day working!

What? That moose must not have gotten the memo; you can't kill one with such a small bullet! Great story, pics, and luck AND (perhaps more importantly) in scoring such a great friend to accompany you! Congrats!
