I recently found out about Kel Tec's SU-16. I've not handled one nor do I know anyone that has. Are they any good? I have a friend thinking about a survival/Zombie type rifle and I wondered if I should mention it or just point him to a good AR.

I know nothing about them other than reading about them and seeing a couple, but they've been discussed pretty extensively here. They seem to be a good, solid gun. To me, they begin and end at their price. For the price of a SU-16 you can get an AR. The SU-16 would be very attractive at around $300.

No reason to get one over an AR. if portability is concerned, split the AR into halves.
Worse recoil, bad sights, worse accuracy.

Appearently hard to come by in this area. My dealer says they are on allocation from the distributors and he can't get one.

Like many Kel Tec offerings they are a functional gimmick that is easy to market, I got one for about $350 and it sits folded in the map pocket behind the passenger seat in one of my trucks. It is accurate to minute of AH in a SHTF scenario and far better than nothing.

Thanks all for your input. He's most interested in the AR due to personal experience in the Army so the SU-16 is of no interest to him. Thanks again.
