3" of rain here since Saturday. More than we had in July and August combined.

2 more beavers have been trapped for a total of 6.

I am officially ready for deer season. I got this baby free with points and free shipping:

Jacket

I don't know what I am going to do with my 16 year-old LOUD jacket. I've been layering with other stuff and a vest more lately anyhow, so it was about time.

C'mon season, GET HERE ALREADY!!!!

I'm gettin the itch. The good itch, not the one Rooster gets. I'm chompin at the bit to get up and check my trail cam's too.

Swinging into Fleet Farm this week to pick up a few things. I need to sort through the blue bin's in the basement to see where I jammed all my gear for the move. Break out the knive sharpening stone and whittle away on the blades...lots to do,it's coming fast.

Already started here, sharpening blades, oiling the boys boots, digging out tubs, making a final batch of last years jerky...

Oldest called and said she was coming home from college that weekend. Wanted to make sure we were gonna be staying and hang out with her instead of deer hunting. The boys were laughing as soon as she said it...

Cool pic.

I was waiting for the pictures and report from one of the "trail cam" bucks.

You and me both TZ. There is one nice buck out back here, but I'll take any deer I see in my backyard. This is grocery shopping, not really hunting. I need about 5 deer per year, so I can't be too choosy.

I have a late season muzzleloader tag and a bow tag that I can use where those trail cam deer are living. I'll be holding out for a good one there.

This weekend, however, I'm supposed to head down to KS for a rifle match - if I can make contact with the right folks about lodging.

Extended forcast for our hunting area north of Duluth, shows cool temps for the first few days of the season. smile grin laugh

I'm smilin like heck if they hold true. It's been a while since we've had good hunting weather temps for opener, and the weeks to follow really. A little snow wouldn't hurt either, but I'll take temps in the 40's and lower. Last year was pushing 70 for the first 3-4 days and it was windy as heck.

Yeah, I don't mind the temp so much, but the 20-30 mph winds make it a lot harder IMO.

I would LOVE sub-freezing opening day with no wind and just a little overcast and cloudy.

I wish the crops were still in. It's killing my deer hunting right now (must be a pun in there somewhere). But that's just a local issue.

For Pheasants, probably 80-90% of the season's take will come on the first two weekends when the crops are out before opener as is the case here. We are over a month ahead of schedule for corn and bean harvests.
