Jorge, Also, that particular bullet can't be loaded in a M-1895 due to magazine restrictions Do you have a M1895 Winchester in 405 Win? Mine will easily accept a 400 gr Woodleigh and with a healthy dose of IMR4895 will go 2090 fps too. That is running right with the good ol' 450/400 NE, albeit at ~ 37% higher chamber pressure. Inside 100 yards it was impossible to tell a 405 Win hit from a 416 Rigby hit when the animal is struck through the lungs broadside. The sample size was two critters each. Oh yeah, the Rigby was hot rodded to Weatherby levels too. AC

Jorge, Thanks for your reply. I probably will not ever hunt dangerous game. I just like interesting guns and interesting cartridges that shoot big bullets! The 1895 Win, Ruger#1, .405 Win, and 450/400 all meet that criteria for me. As do the 1886 Win, 1874 Sharps, 1885 Win, 1895 Marlin, .45-70, .45-90, .50-90, and .50-100. Like you, if I were knowingly going after game likely to bite, stomp, or gore, I'd go with a repeater. Maybe an 1886 Win chambered for .50-100!

If you like big bores have some fun and go to www.sauvestre.com. A fellow that works in the export division (Cyril) and I have been trying to arrange a deal to export their ammo to this country. They, BTW, have a bullet called the 'FIP' but for you the interesting thing is they've used a shotgun to go after cape buffalo. Now that's a big bore ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Strange concept for us but then they are Frenchman ! This ammo maker is very well known on other continents AND they have bullets that are much like the Barnes. Check them out....I have their catalog with pictures of African game taken with shotgun and rifle and European game. If you contact Cyril tell him "Jake said Hello".

Thanks Expat, I like those old big bore winnies too. I see the "rhoid" is over here now attempting to highjack this thread even though he's vowed multiple times that he was leaving after nobody listened to his lies. We're still waiting for him to answer and produce evidence of ANY hunting or firearms experience ( other than what he "googles" on the internet). He's even avoided his own question on a thread he started here in the African forum. All he does is ognore of obfuscate then goes to another thread to stir the pot. We'll wait and see if the produces eveidence of his "sample" buffalo shot or anything else. He's the typical internet coward who refuses to publish his name. Odds are he's the same"Joey Buttafouco" of the hunting forums that goes by other names. Hey AC you don't have a 708 Area Code do you? jorge

AC, if a 405 Winchester performs THAT well, I guess you don't need to carry your 505 Gibbs, do you? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

P.S........I'm still waiting to hear about those buffalo!

Jorge, I asked you this very simple question: Do you have a M1895 Winchester in 405 Win? I take it from you last post that the answer to my question is that no you do not own a M1895 Winchester in 405 Win. So once again you are not qualified to make the statements you make because you simply have no experience with the subject matter. Here is the 405 Win, M1895 Winchester. See Jorge I actually own and shoot one. In know what does and doesn't fit in the magazine and what COL's must be for throat clearance(s), what muzzle velocities are obtainable, what powders work best, etc, etc. Now my area code isn't 708. Allen, there is definitely little difference between the 416 Rigby/Rem and the 405 Win. That said there is a BIG difference between any of those and a 505 Gibbs. Just Google search it if you don't believe me. AC PS - Google is a wonderful thing

What I believe is that you're ducking my question about your buffalo hunting experience, and at this point I think you're a semi-demented headcase who's full of hope and hot air.
To heck with a "Google" search, talk straight for a change.......

AC: I don't own a Yugo either to know that it's a POS, kinda like you. Incidentally, a good friend of mine recently returned from Tanz where he attempted to use the 405 and didn't get the opportunity. Before that, I was him him when he extensively researched bullet/load combos for the M1895 and that's where we both actually tested the limitations of the magazine and loads. Since you're posting pictures, how about one of you in front of the four buffalo you shot with your 405 505 and 416? You know, after looking at your picture I am CONVINCED you've never been to africa and never will, but it does make for a nice poster at the post office though. Tell me, do you get tired of saying "do you want fries with that." jorge

After looking at the photo there is a striking resemblence to a couple of other internet idiots that have trolled all the forums using the exact same pose. Thank God for the ignore button.

Stetson, another smart poster with a good memory just verified your notion. This idiot is none other than "Ass Clown" the same microcephalic moron that was ridiculed out of AR. So "AC" now we know for sure, your "urban outdoorsman" look coupled with that ridiculous pose gave it away. The jig is up. jorge

A 405 is the same as a 416 Rig/Rem and a 505????
Whatever you're smoking, keep it away from me. A 405 has what - 3400 ft lbs of ME and a 416 Rigby has closer to 5000. Small difference???? NOT! And the 505 -- Get real, and get out of cyber space and into reality. Googling doesn't make you an expert on anything other than microsoft, and it seems from your posts, that you are microsoft between the ears.

gee, after visiting this thread off and on for several days, I have now noticed that there is a nice looking Ruger #1 in one of the photos. I wonder why I didn't notice that before?

Charlie: There is a resemblance to the late Bob Denver in the aforementioned role of Gilligan, but I was particularly aghast with the haute couture and what looks to be a velvet painting in the back. I think he's still with us however under another recently registered moniker. jorge

Have had a 95 .405, mfd. 1912, shotgun butt, Lyman 38, for many years. Have never hunted with it but have shot it a fair amount. Even with the flat butt it is a terrific kicker, probably because of all the drop in the stock. But with a rubber slip on pad it is bearable. Just no fun from the bench.
