I am led to believe that this Rossi is capable of handling heavy hunting loads such as Lee 300gr GC and Hornady XPT 250gr plus.
Is this so?

The '92 is very strong, stronger than the Marlin. You can get '92 clones in .454. No Marlins so chambered to the best of my knowledge.
OTOH, they are the least desirable for cowboy action shooting, COAL critical and not that conducive to very fast cycling.

It's a strong action. If it's listed in a reloading manual and the bullet design, overall length etc ,will feed and function, then it will be fine.

MK1 I use 20 grains of H110 with a 300 grain cast SWC. Does fine, easy on the shoulder. I would suggest getting one of those barrel lapping kits from Midway. I put 15 course, 25 medium and 40 or so fine down the spout. I used unsized cast slugs with 6 grains of Unique. I can't imagine that Rossi spends much time insuring the smoothness of their barrels.

Ditto on bore lapping the Rossi. I did my .38/.357 and am convinced it improved accuracy.
Something that is seldom discussed, but that I am convinced is common, is barrel constrictions under factory dovetails. The NECO lapping instructions mention this, and I'm pretty sure I could feel them when slugging the Rossi. Lapping may not completely remove them, but it helps.

I did my own with Steve's kit and DVD. I lapped mine per his recommendation.
Or you can wait eight months for him to do it.
He's cool with it either way. He's also very willing to discuss and lead you through it. Very generous with his time and help.
