Sportsman's Guide always has a small cylinder stove for sale that looks kinda slick for the money. Don't know if it's from Canada though. Video: HERE Buy: HERE If that's the one, please buy it then report back. I've been eyeing it for a few years now but haven't pulled the trigger.

I was tired last night -should have said it is a stove for heating a tent . The stove i had on my favs was a smallish steel stove rectangular in shape and i'm pretty sure it was made in canada. Found this last night but it weighs 35lbs -a little too heavy for my needs but pretty nice for $70.. http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Military-Camping-Hunting-Fishing/dp/B002XNWC8A

Ol Mike, that's the same stove I linked to from Sportsman's Guide. We were typing at the same time.

222 - Bushcraft has one of those. He was less than impressed with it when I asked him about it. Some kind of fatal design flaw which I don't recall at present.

OK now i'll add more previously left out info -the stove i'm looking for doesn't break down-and is low profile maybe 6-8in. off the ground. -------------------------------------------------- 222 -yup but the one i plugged says 35lbs -yours 20lbs..thanks.
----------------------------------------------------- Whambasted --i've seen those before propane would be mighty handy -but would it draw moisture ? I'm in florida and we have VERY damp winters here .
-----------------------------------------------------
I'm thinking the website for the stoves is gone looks like i dragged my feet too long....

I've got the Kni-co "Packer" stove that looks great, and is well constructed, but has a fatal design flaw also. My best guess is the the 5" pipe is too large for the fire box. Just a guess. Ol Mike, here's a stove that's priced right, and is very light. HERE It's also by Kni-Co, and I have no idea if it works well, but given the construction of my stove, I'd be willing to give 'em another chance.......I think. I live a couple hours from the Kni-Co company, and I've just been too lazy to take my stove to them so they could show me what I'm doing wrong. Fire starter extraordinaire, Campfire member WoodsWalker, doesn't like his Packer stove either, and so I know it's not just me. The stoves are very well built for the money though, so I'd love to make one work. This kinda came off as a backhanded complement, but I don't know how else to say I could love a stove if it really worked.

I've had good luck with the standard Kni-co Packer, with a roll up kifaru pipe. I use a standard 5" to 4" reducing fitting. Its a 10' pipe with 7' inside the tepee and draws well.

Thanks for feedback. A 5" to ?" reduction has been my only plan for possibly making my Packer stove work. IF it will burn like it's supposed to, it will be the perfect stove for my needs. I even ordered the snow legs option, thinking I'd use it during the dead of winter.

I've got the little stove that SG is selling. I primarily use DuraFlame logs in it when car-camping with my 8-man tipi during late-season whitetail hunts when a big wall tent and cylinder stove doesn't make sense. Duraflame logs burn loooong and hot in this little number. It is essentially airtight and the manufacturing is flat out amazing considering the price point. It's an amazing little stove for the price point, albeit with the following caveats: - Pipe is too short and diameter too small
- Exhaust port is too small
- The damper on the back is criminally stupid
- Legs are a little too long
As is, it burns perfectly dry wood reasonably well, but there just isn't enough draw to get it going quickly, resulting in a semi-frustrating smudgepot until it get's cranking. I got around that by filling it up and blasting it with a weed-burner until it takes off on it's own. Like I said, car-camping. That said, the fixes are easy enough, especially if you already have a pipe (or pipe sections) that is taller and has a larger diameter. One can either cut the exhaust port off and go with a bigger exhaust hole that's flush with the barrel of the stove, or weld on a larger exhaust port and mate it with a larger diameter roll-up stainless stove pipe. The damper on the back is counter-useful at best and needs to be welded shut. The legs can be buzzed down to taste. Oh yeah...one more thing. They used cheap stoveblack and it will rust like a mothersucker if you burn it hot and expose it to any amount of moisture. Burn it hot and hit it with a good dose of good stoveblack and burn it again to set the paint. I haven't bothered to change mine, but will probably do so in the next week or so. Net, net. For the price point, so long as you are willing to modify it slightly if you want to burn wood, it's a heck of a nice little car camping stove. Allen
It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't, everyone would do it. The hard...is what makes it great. Reviews are only as good as the crowd reviewing them. Progressive Liberalism is the philosophy of Western suicide.

Something you might want to try with the drawing problem with stoves. When it's cold outside sometime a cold plug can be in your pipe where it exits to the outside. A simple fix would be to just wrap something like tinfoil around pipe on the outside to help keep it slightly warm this will help with drawing.
