So as not to hi-jack a recent thread I will open this one on penetrant's. I have used several over the years in varied different applications. Wd-40 isn't much pb-blaster is good liquid wrench is good but my all time favorite is a home brew of 50% atf and 50% Acetone. This stuff will loosen mechanical joints that I thought where well beyond salvageable. My 2 cents worth. Just though I would pass this on for others try.

I mostly use Kroil, but have used a mix of brake fluid and ATF successfully.

If you happen to get the acetone/ATF on plastics or stock finishes, nothing good will come of it. I use Kroil. Spray the stuff on your lug nuts, and the wheel will come off in the driveway.

I have used the acetone/ATF mix as well as acetone/Marvel Mystery Oil and they works great but it will take finish off things you may not otherwise want to have the finish removed from... in most cases Kroil or PB Blaster does what you need without as many issues. Many years ago we used to have this stuff called "Mouse milk" that seemed to work well but have not seen the same stuff in years.

I read in a magazine the other day (Consumer Reports?) that compared penetrants and the ATF/Acetone beat all the over the counter stuff. I use kroil and also use it to clean bores.

Why not just Atf?
