Some thoughts that might be just wild goose chase though. J.D, Jones has some experience with smithing the alloy barrels. Don't know if any of it would relate to the pivot mount or your alloy. Could be some info there though.

Another thought - Some sleeve barrels for the NEF frame and the Encore Frame. Have seen some of these shoot, and they really do the accuracy thing. Being said, all of those had "expert" sleeving, chambering and throating though. We are talking .200 and .300 on centers here with reloads. Top breaks have an "issue" with sizing reloaded cases on the headspace thing, and also know this is a consideration when doing this type of work for accuracy, AND chamber pressure considerations.

May be goose chase, but just some some thoughts here.

Man, you need one of those 2000 gallon plastic swimming pools to test that thing, LOL!!!!

We got 600 gr slug to 2000 fps in NEF.Used ball
powder load. Case length of maximum 3.07 works.
Can use our case shorter, but load developement harder.
Anyone using our style case should also put in adapter
for shotgun primer. Save a lot of work
beefing up hammer speed and strength.Ed

are there any plans available for chamber reamers and load dies being available?

In NEf factory same chamber.For long version I made mine
with lathe tool.I have specs so that reamers can be made
for snug fit for our case.I have specs for dies.Now I use
pieces of others dies.ED.

Being some guns need to much work
to fire bmg primers, it easier to
do the following with adapter bushings.
Here is picture of cases for primer
comparisons.1st is regular bmg
primer. 2nd is adapted to a shotgun primer.
3rd is adapted to large rifle primer.
Of the 2 adaptations, large rifle is
easier to do, just ream out pocket, thread in adapter, but adapting shotgun primer
you have to deepen the original primer
pocket a little, then thread and screw in
a bushing.These two primers give about
100 fps less than bmg primer.Ed.

No hunting yet. just load developement. I don't cast.
I can get heat treated super hard slugs delivered
for 70 cents each, so have no desire or time to cast.
I just have aperture sights. Both Savage and Nef have scope
rails if scope is needed.
Anyone wanting to get into 12ga bigbore NEF shooting;
Nef 12ga Ultra slug gun at gunshop $225.Add weight to
butt and forearm. Get a thicker pad.
Get a box of 10 brass cases from Rocky Mtn Cartridge
for 60 bucks. These cases use shotgun primers, have thick
base like our case, have thick sides to fit chambers
right, No chamber work needed, use as is.
As you fire these cases they work harden, and can go faster.
600gr at 1750 fps possible, at first.. that's
4000 ft lbs.Ed

Testing RL-25 in Savage, with long case--Got 730 gr
hardened cast slug to 2400 plus with 300 gr RL-25.
Full load. Bottom of cases don't need sizing.Ed

I have no interest in owning one, but your work is definitely way out there with regards to revisiting the past and breaking new ground at the same time, so I'm having a great time reading along. This ain't no doing an Ackley Improved of something followed by a great stomping up of dust! Good work, keep up the explorations.

Maybe you could lose the rim and go with the 50 BMG cartridge base as is next generation?

My hairiest wildcat gets close to your description, a straight belted case, made with bmg brass.In an action
taking bmg pressures, good for 20,000 ft lbs.I like
straight cases, so either a rim or belt is
needed for headspace. Ed

Testing Savage with long case-Got 2550 with
320gr WC-855H special ball.730 gr slug.
Same slug,
300gr of RL-25 got 2400. 300 gr of RL-22
got 2800. 280 gr of W-760 ball got 2900.
Will hold more 760, but pressures around 40k on last
two loads mentioned.Savage extracts easy,
bellers like a tank gun.Ed

We got a 1050 gr slug over 2200 in th eSavage.
Cases extracted easy, gun works fine.
We get questions about recoil.
My Savage is a pussycat being heavy
relative to the loads...Now Rob's gets exciting...
Rob shot a few 1000 grain Bridgers at 3250 fps
and he said he couldn't go any higher as recoil
was "severe". His Borchardt is 24 lbs, and can take
any pressure you could load for it and still
hang on. Cartridges of this size really gets
the juices flowing at over 23,000 ft lbs..Ed

We got 1887 12ga levergun here to test. Has 2 & 3/4
inch chamber and we will test with our cases cut back and
with Rocky Mtn cases.Here is pic.Neat gun.Ed

Do you know what pressure the '87 ten gauge original will handle. Friend just got one to sell on consignment for an older gentleman. Well worn, but sound and tight. Most of the wear is from carrying. He got permission to use it for Fall turkey, and says he is buying. I'm second in line to purchase it.

Remseven-Not for sure. Original actions were
just cast and not moderm investment cast steel.
Original 10 ga was black powder and early
smokeless substitutes. Max I think about 10,000
lbs pressure.Only load data I have on 10ga is for
long shells.Ed

Thanks for reply! We were figuring 8000 psi for ballpark figure. Not going to load for it until sure. May even go the blackpowder route. Neat old shotgun to me. Surprisingly well balanced IMO.
