A quick search turned up few hunting rifles in the good 6.5
A thompson centre icon looked good. But they told me they no longer sell the 6.5 creedmore. Cooper of course looks good. I owned on for a while. But they are a lot of $.
Given the choice I would take a 260, since I have brass and dies.
Any advice?

Isn't there a recent thread on here about ruger 77's in 260 at Bud's on line. Shouldn't be too hard to find a ruger or remington in 260 somewhere on the web.

A Zastava Model 70 (currently imported by K-var) in 6.5x55 or 6.5x57 would make a dandy hunting rifle. This is the same rifle that was imported by Interarms as the Mark X and more recently by Remington as the model 798. Hard to go wrong with a quality commercial mauser action. They sell it in .264 win mag too, if you want a screamer. Retail should be under $500.

as a guy that owns more than one 260 and 6.5 x 55... and even a 6.5 x 57 ( my favorite).... the other two rounds are pretty interchangeable for a handloader...
I wouldn't have either if I had to rely on factory ammo... but since I do handload.. it isn't an issue...
My two Ruger 260s ( with 1 in 8 twists) have to give no apologies to anyone about accuracy...
so sorry to disagree with my friend Carlos ( always a first) the Ruger 260 is not a bad choice.. neither is a good 6.5 x 55, regardless of the manufacturer... but putting a barrel on a Mauser is NEVER a bad thing.. in fact there are some pretty good low prices on some excellent Mauser barrels...
you can even get a good one for about $200, from the German outfit out of Atlanta, ( whose name somehow escapes me at the moment)...
in fact at the moment I am putting together a 6.5 x 55 on a Mauser action for the son of another one of our forum members..

Any advice? What rifle/s are you running now? While there is nothing wrong with the 6.5s, I'd likely not fixate on owning a .26 with so many good options for a rifle in .25, or .27 available. In fact, the only way I'd consider a 6.5 currently, based on what is available in production rifles now, would be if I were having a rifle custom barreled.

tikka3006,

I hunt with a Sako 75 in 300 wsm Also a Tikka and Savage in 204 So the 6.5 cal just feels right, at least for me, deer yotes etc. Also shoot a Shiloh Sharps in 45 70 doing some BPCR.

I'd look for a Remington BDL in .260 (6.5mm) Remington... that's a .308 cartridge case necked down to .26 caliber (6.5mm) and should be a very accurate, flat-shooting rifle/cartridge combination... and would be suitable for varmints, hogs, antelope and whitetails as well as large mule deer, but a tad light for big elk. caribou, moose and larger bears unless you limit your shots to shorter ranges for these larger game animals. The Remington BDL is usually an extremely accurate, fine looking, push-feed, bolt-action rifle with a hinged floor-plate to open to quickly empty the rifle's magazine. Add a good quality 3-9x40mm A/O or a 4-12x40mm A/O scope with an Adjustable Objective turret to eliminate parallax at ANY range and you've got yourself an excellent rifle/cartridge combination for a life-time of hunting. Good luck on your quest... Strength & Honor... Ron T.

Or 6.5 Creedmoor. Can't go wrong with a Savage.
