I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. -Thomas Jefferson

My grandmother, who died 17 years ago at the age of 95, was never very far from her Iver Johnson. She also had a Savage .22/.410 O/U with a WWII era tenite stock. She was well known for going out on the back porch at night and firing a couple loads of birdshot out across the pasture whenever she thought there might be prowlers out there. She'd let us kids drive her car and when we came to stay for a couple weeks in the summer she'd make sure we didn't run out of .22 shells. God, I miss my Granny, take care of her.

The "Cycle Works" part of the business ceased in 1940, but the ad could have come from a time much earlier.

In today's dollars, accounting for inflation since that time, that's about $540.00.

I've seen that before and times have changed. I'm to old to change though. I still give guns to adults for presents.
