I am trying to get my dad a Mathews Bow for Christmas but I'm not sure what to choose for him. It is really hard to pick out a bow for someone. Any help would be appreciated.

This Sept I bought a new Mathews Z7 Extreem in the 60lbs. It is smooth, quiet and seems to be forgiving. My old bow was over 20yrs old with a draw weight range of 65 to 80lbs. I had it set to about 69lbs. I'm 56yrs old and decided I didn't need that kind of weight to kill deer. I have the Z7 set to about 56lbs. It's a joy to shoot. Love the bow.

Brad-
Cool gift for pops. You might reconsider choosing for him though. IMO, a bow is far more individualistic than a rifle.
If you want to surprise the patriarch, talk to the local pro shop about selling you a "token" new bow for something to open at Xmas. That way he can go back and get something that'll feel right for him. And, I'd not steer anyone into a specific brand without them getting to try a bunch.

Yup, the "giftcard bow" would be best.

What if pops wanted a crossbow?
Take a child hunting, fishing or trapping. They are the next generation of outdoors people.

There's no way my Son could have picked out my bow for me.

I agree on the actual bow itself (weight, draw and color) but he has been shooting Mathews for years and was wanting to upgrade. I was looking for more input on the current line up. I wouldn't be opposed to hearing about some better options like above ( Biotech and PSE). What do you like better and why?
I would just get him a gift card in the amount of the bow I decided on and let him go get the bow.
