World record animals aren't what I'm after BUT, if I had the opportunity to take one, it would be a dall ram. Yes, something that would beat the Swank ram would be mind-boggling, indeed. Highly unlikely that would ever happen, though, as current areas open to hunting aren't likely to produce something which is that inconceivable. However, the Cook ram came from one of the current permit areas and the genetics have always been there. And, the area which produced the Lentfer ram has always been open to over-the-counter tag hunting and the genetics still remain in that region, too. So who knows?

Let the trophies live for breeding stock! I pass up bigger bulls and shoot smaller ones just to maintain a good bloodline. Not to be a preacher here but you all should consider this, unless you want you grandkids shooting runts.

Coues. Typical or Non-Typical. I'm not picky.
And it'd have to be earned, not bought, on my own, on public land, during an open season. No governor tag, no raffle tag, no Mexico, no mega ranch of fenced off private property, no guides, and no finders fees.

It would have to be a giant bull elk. As much as I would love to go after a huge Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, you can't deny a massive 7 point (or more) bull elk scoring into the 400's.

The only fault in that logic, is the fact that males aren't the only ones who carry genetic propensity.

Does an animal's genes really change from adolescence to maturity?

Well, Matt, not to argue middle school biology and high school physiology with you, but males aren't the only ones who possess any and/or all genetic propensities. Case in point; A 180+ class Dall ram appeared in 1989 among a sub-population of sheep which had never produced a ram over 170 points. However, the genetics have always been there and still are.

Typical bull elk.
More importantly, taken by me on my own legs, on public land.

Isn't there some island near California that has native blacktail deer? That be cool to hunt there. I saw a show a couple years ago.

Typical whitetail with a bow.
Typical bull elk.
Speedgoat.
Any of the sheep.
Records not needed, quality of hunt is the most important part.
Cheers!

It would be Elephant for me. I was within spitting distance of a 50 pounder in Zim. The absolute biggest rush I ever got while hunting.

I haven't read the thread but the most sought after world record is without a doubt the typical Whitetail, so that's what I'd choose.
The hunter becomes famous and gets wealthy.
No other species can claim that kind of power.
