I'm leaning towards .308... If I can't find something used I like, I'll likely buy new in the next few weeks.

BTW, yes I'm in Canada, and yes I have a valid PAL.

You have any more specifics on what you are looking for? ie: manufacturer, action type, stock material, etc.? I personally don't have anything for sale right now, but I come accross some deals every now and then and I could pass them on if you like.

Thanks for replying. I'm kinda all over the map... I'm not partial to synthetic stocks. Much prefer walnut and blueing. A winchester featherweight in .308 would do nicely (or rem 700 mountain rifle). I'm partial to savage 99's too. So a 99C in .308 could fit the bill (or even a 110 in walnut). I might even try a BLR. I'm not partial to semi's. I'd prefer a clip to a top loader.

Basically I like rifles in the "handier" sizes. That's why I'd prefer a short action. I have a couple rifles in other calibers, (.30-30 and .303 Br). They've done good by me, but I'd like to have a nicer rifle that shoots a bit flatter which would be my primary deer gun. (so it'd have to be in excellent cond).

I'm gonna look at a new Savage model 14 american classic when the shop can get one in. Or if they make me a deal on a featherweight, I might go that way. (unless I find something used that tickles me). There's usually a local gun show in the spring here, so if a new one doesn't follow me home, I could wait until then and see if there's anything decent.

Not sure if that helps. (?) And yes, if you hear of anything, please let me know. Thanks again. What province are you in?
