Easy for me. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Absolutely every good American home should contain at least one AR 15. Mine is made by Bravo Company and is chambered in 5.56mm NATO.

A 12-bore shotgun is next. Great for self-defense and awesome for taking game. I have several, but I'd probably settle on a break-action as the most reliable. I like doubles (that's SxS) with two triggers.

I also would take a high-capacity 9mm pistol. If you're ionto the whole "buy American" thing, make a S&W M&P. If not, take your pick. I chose an HK P2000.

Then, a nice bolt action in .308 Win. I choose the Winchester Model 70.

What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?

You can polish a turd all you like. If you log on to the Marlin Owners Forum you'll find extensive documentation to back up what I'm telling you. The 39A is heavy and must be perfectly clean to operate. Romance aside it isn't a great gun. The 10/22 is lighter, much cheaper, and much more reliable.

Yup, it's them jamomatics that remain in continuous production for over 100 years, longest of any firearm made IIRC

12 ga Browning A5 with invectors
270 Win 70 FWT in stainless
CZ 452 Lux in .22lr

For a handgun I'd try to track down one of the older 357 Ruger security sixes in stainless because I think they are a tad tougher than the Smith 19/66

If I could sneak a Ruger Mk II auto and an AR15 they'd pretty well round out the choices.

Ruger Blackhawk in .357 on my right hip,
Glock 23 .40 cal crossdraw on my left,
Remington 870 Tactical on my left shoulder,
Remington 700 30.06 on my right shoulder, and
DPMS AR-15 in my hand.

Wish I had a couple more hips and shoulders.

Sorry I can't choose just four, and I'm trying to decide whether to trade the .357 for my other one in .45 Colt.

I can only say the 7 that I owned would never feed, fire, or eject on a reqular basis. They dated from the early 1950s through the early 2000s. I tried everything including many types of ammo. I don't miss them. Rose colored glasses and all that....keep dreaming.

It was a long term conspiracy intent on making you sound silly. Exceeded the Marlin marketing department's expectations in vast proportion from all appearances.

I'm on the Marlin Owners forum as I have several Marlin levers that I really enjoy. I've never heard anyone there trash the 39A.

Must be a secret Marlin forum that I don't know about!

You are a [bleep]' IDIOT, and continually REINFORCE that perception here, on this forum, Swamp-turd.

Live with it.....?

......That is more than likely your goal,.....and intent.

Do me a favor, and re-post that hilarious clip of you shooting your Pedersoli Sharps carbine in your driveway.

It DEFINED you as a "Rifleman".

Boy, it's a good thing we're all friends here or things could really deteriorate.

Right now, any 'four' should be semi-auto and have large-cap magazines with plenty of available ammo.

Yer gonna need 'em..

More like one should be something that you can fix yourself and uses ammo that you can make yourself from raw materials. A rocklock fits that bill better than anything else.

My take is a little different. In my eye, this list needs to be expannded by just one. I will break it down:

What I believe John and Suzie Q American should own and be proficient with:

#1. 12 guage pump shotgun

#2. .22 rimfire rifle

#3 30-06/.308 bolt action

#4 9mm or .45 Semi auto handgun, or .38/.357 revolver

#5 AR-15. America's liberty rifle.

A rimfire handgun would be a serious bonus to the list if it could be at some time acquired by John and Suzie.

With these absolute basics, the American family can Defend, Feed and Recreate.

all but 1.

As shotguns go, I prefer SxS.

Understand completely RWE,

Personal preferences matter not for gun people such as yourself. A SxS is a perfect choice. Me personally, I like my old Belgian Browning Auto-5s.

I was thinking along the lines of the average American family in Pump Handle, Nevada. smile
