What options do you look for when you purchased your M4 and what do you wish you had? Do you wish you went with a 20" barrel or longer?
I am looking at getting a Daniel Defense M4 instead of a bolt action and wanted some ideas, things you found that helped or were unnecessary.
Thanks for the input!!

Lightweight - no more than 7 lbs. scopeless for a calling rig, 16" - 18" barrel, good trigger, and decent accuracy... I am currently using a RRA Coyote Carbine and haven't found anything much to complain about the rifle yet.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

My $.02 worth. Shot an M-4 I built on a Rock River lower for a few years but found myself limited by it. Liked it for short/medium range but wasn't really suited for mounting up a scope for farther ranges. I set it up once this way & wasn't at all happy with close in shooting. Put everything back for close in shooting & wasn't happy with that either. Finally just have finished building a 20" set up for medium/long range shooting & keep a Mossberg 935 for close in. I'm in the mountains of SW Virginia & have areas that shooting ranges from near point blank to farms that I can cover close to 1000 yards. Can't say what will work best for you. Just have to give it a shot & see what you like. Beauty of the AR platform is 2 pins & swap the top to what DOES work.

I have AR's in 16, 17 and 18" my calling rigs are 16" with either a 2.5-8 or 3.5-10 scope. I have no problems with them in my lap or out at 250 yards. I'm sure I could stretch that but Im a caller and think that's a good limit on the 223. My rigs are also light weight with 2 pencil barrels and one RECCE profile that I shaved another .5 lbs off on my lathe. Light is key to a nimble calling rifle.
My 18" has killed quite a few too but it's an SPR profile and frankly, doesn't offer anything the others don't .

Yep. 16" Flattop. If you can't hit anything to 300yds with that, it's your fault.
MK AR 3-9X40mm.
Light is good. If you're gonna spend money on something, make it the trigger.

Travis Pretty much what he said. If you plan on shooting a lot farther though, then you need a longer barrel.

16" flat top with a 3.5-10X50 Nikon Monarch. Mine has a RRA 2 stage NM trigger in it. I had a red dot in a 45 dgree offset mount but have taken it off but it will probably go back on for the close shots.
Walk softly and carry a big bore!
