Was in Wyoming for a mule deer & pronghorn hunt. Hadn't shot anything or checked the scope after the 900 mile drive. We were rumbling down the road in the old Suburban when, "Hey there's a coyote. You should shoot him."

Well.... Okay. Dang he looks far away. Quick zap with the laser reveals 417 yards and he's taking a few steps away.

Rest the 700 CDL on my pack, set the 6x scope on 6x, grin acquire the 'yote, hold on his head as he's facing away and uphill and boom. Coyote flop! The 115 Nosler Ballistic Tip severed his spine, exited the front of his chest. I was pleased, and it was kind of nice to know that the rifle was well sighted-in for the hunt.

Confidence inspiring when the deer rifle can whack a coyote at nearly a quarter mile like it was no big deal. The mule deer & pronghorn were taken at shorter ranges within the next few days.

GuyM: Congratulations on a great shot and harvesting that handsome Coyote.
Good for you.
I used to drive 1,200 miles from the "wet side of Washington" state to Hunt Antelope and/or Deer each fall in Wyoming.
I have shot many Coyotes and a couple of Badgers along with several Jack Rabbits while so engaged but we always waited til after the Big Game Hunting was done to start thinning out the yotes.
Your good looking Rifle reminds me of a Remington 700 Classic in caliber 25/06 Remington that I once owned - boy do I wish I had that one back.
Don't let your CDL get away from you!
Many happy returns of that day to you.

Just received a 700 Classic on a trade. Did you use factory ammo or was it one of your pet loads ? Hope mine shoots that good. Nice Shot !

Very nice, with a 6x scope also. Who'd a thunk it?

Hope you do well on the bigger critters too.

Great shootin' Guy.

Between your .25-06, and your well worn Kimber 1911, you're quickly becoming the Campfire poster boy for "Beware of the man with one gun." smile

Many Wyoming Coy dogs have fallen to whatever I happened to be packing in the truck at the time. Bout 6-7 years ago southern WY had a boom of cotton-tails, the following 2 years we had a boom in predators. Coyotes roamed in family units (aka herds) those years and hunted early morning that way most of the late summer and fall. Largest group I saw was 14 dogs at once. Another friend of mine does the coyote shoots and I believe he took 2nd place that year in the Rawlins shoot with 23 coyotes in 2 days.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it was nice actually hitting him with that first shot. It's been a good rifle.

Went on to shoot a good 3x4 mulie and a pronghorn as well, later in the trip.

Ken - I used handloads, the 115 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip over Retumbo for about 3120 fps. It worked real well on all three animals I shot with it this season.

Thanks for the update on the rest of the trip Guy, congrats on the two bigger 4 legged critters.

(Do those "eastern" mulies taste as good as our WA ones?)

How about "gaggles?"
