Have any of you loaded this and used standard Large Rifle primers? Some data uses them, some uses Large Rifle Magnum primers, just wondering if there's any reason why standard primers wouldn't work satisfactorily. I should mention I do hunt in below zero temps.
Here's what I'd like to try:
Bullet - Nosler 130 gr Accubond
Brass - Winchester
Primer - CCI 200
IMR-7828ssc - (56.5 - 59.5 gr)

I have used it with 150 grain bullets. It works very well. I am using 56.4 grains and getting 2900 ft./s.

For 130's I would try RL 22 or H 4831sce

H4350 and H1000 are both extreme powders and my guess is they should work real good with the bullet you have in mind.

I found H1000 (we call it AR2217 here) way too slow for my 270 especially with 130g bullets. Couldn't get above 2975fps and so-so accuracy.
I found H4350 (AR2209) much better with the light bullets up to 130g.
H4831 (AR2213SC) was best with the 140 to 160 grain bullets.

yeah, you really can't get enough 7828 SC in a 270 to get into any pressure worries.....
I use Large Rifle primers in any rifle that needs that size primer... even in a 300 Win Mag, I run 83 grains of H 1000 with a 220 grain bullet ( yeah I know it is over book max, so don't copy it so you won't have a reason to complain about it)..
I use a large rifle primer with that.. which provides better accuracy than using ANY magnum primer...and it has no problem igniting all 83 grains of powder without any hesitation... and it worked just fine to down in the low 20s temp wise..
so a large rifle primer will do just fine in your 270...

FWIW....I have a 22" marlin xl7 with a pretty tight non freebore chamber. This spring I ran 60.5 7828 ssc under a 140 horn bt in 30 degree weather. The load clocked 2980. Was using a fed 210 primer.
When I put that load into quickload it thinks it should do 3053 at around 62k pressure but the standard setting is 70 degrees.
When I correct temp to 30 degrees it thinks I'll lose about 2ft per second per degree of temp change.
At 30 degrees the prediction is 2977fps at 58k.
Quick load doesn't get any better than that.
I'd hunt our normal wis deer season with the 210 primer cause we don't see temps like that. But if I really really was gonna be hunting in below zero I think I'd definately be testing the two primers against ea other for velocity and accuracy in cold cold weather.
BTW....from what I've read the fed 210 is probably closer to the cci 250 primer than a 200.

I've used a lot of 7828ssc as well as the old standard cut in both the 270 & 280, & always with standard primers, mostly Federal 210M or occasionally CCI BR's.
Never a problem down to about zero, but never did an A/B comparison with a 215M mag primer primer either.
7828 is slow enough that it would likely work just fine with the mag primer, but the 270 case just does not hold enough powder to make me see it making much difference.
A trial or 2 would better answer your questions..........sometimes a mag primer actually gives poorer performance than a standard primer does.

I loaded 2 loads of IMR7828SSC for my Vanguard S2.
With Federal cases Max load in my gun was 57.0gr of
IMR7828SSC with 150gr Game King bullets, got 2983FPS.
Using Winchester cases and 58.3gr of IMR7828SSC with
150gr Nosler Partitions I got 2960FPS. Both
worked good but were Max in my gun. Used Federal 215 Mag
primers with both loads.

I don't bother with the small cut...use the regular 7828 which bulks up fine in WW brass and 62 gr with 130 sierra and partitions' Fed 215's gives right at 3100 fps from 4-5 M70 barrels so far....shoots great, too.
Would not hesitate to use the load at any temperature.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I agree with Bob on the SSC.... In my 280 AI, the plain 7828 gave me a little better speed, 10 fps ES and 3/8" groups. This was with 160 gr Accubonds and WLR primers in Winch nickle cases. When I tried the SSC the pressure was up and I had to back about 2 gr to get a safe load and the accuracy was not as good and speed was down some. I have tried the SSC with the Hornady Amax and the gun didn't really like that either. I have about 7 1/2 pounds I would trade for the equal of 7828. The 7828 really started to shine when I got to the last 1 grain of powder for a max load. Speed jumped up, ES really dropped and Accuracy was great.

ackley that's interesting....I thought the SC was supposed to be the same as the regular(never have used the SC). Thanks for the info.

My lots of sc were a perfect match in my weatherbies to long cut as far as speed goes. I don't sit and grind out es numbers...maybe I should.... but I didn't notice anything wild over the chrono as far as variations.

YA, I was surprised too. Was hoping the SSC was going to be the same but maybe it is just my lot. Got an 8# of the SSC and had previously got 1 # of the regular. R22 did alot better with the AMax.... 1 ragged little hole @ 200 yards and I thought the Accubonds were accurate @ 3/8 an ". Maybe I will try the F215s and see if that helps the SSC out any. Has anyone noticed a difference in like the 4831 and the 4831 SC ??

That's the scary thing about buying big jugs of powder....that's gotta stink when it doesn't match up to an "old reliable". I usually buy my fav powders in 1# bottles but often get 2-3 of them at a time w/matching lot numbers.
The guys at the shop seem skeptical over the need to match lot numbers but I think alot of buyers must not use chronos!
