Again I go to Gunnison area 55 colorado 3rd season and again I am met by no snow and warm temperatures, ATV's driving just before sunrise till after sunset, a camp at the base of the valley with generator and prison light system. But had a great time and filled some tags anyway.
Hunted hard up the mountain before light most mornings staying till after dark every night. Elk were around from day one just skitish with all the activity. Followed fresh tracks into the timber found the elk shot mine and pushed two out to Chad and Eric. drug one handed downhill to the tent door.. Love it when a plan comes together..

New 16X20 camp tent ahhh elbow room other than bad zippers nice tent

Looks like a great hunt! Quite a few CF members who hunt the Gunny Valley!

See any decent bucks while you guys were out? My uncles got a cabin on the dividing road of 55/551 in Ohio City, been tossing around the idea of trying 55 instead of 551 for my tag next year. Got enough points to draw 3rd now in either unit.

Glad someone filled tags.
For that tent zipper, try squeezing the zipper clasp together (the part that goes up and down) with a set of pliers. Squeeze the metal part together a little bit at a time. Those things wear or stretch and won't close the teeth on the zipper tight enough.I fixed mine that way.

Decent bucks all over the place I have 7 preference points and no tag yet.
How many will it take I have been applying for 55 3rd buck?

Nope the cheap pot metal broke, I took pictures will send to Wilderness tents to try to get them to send me some real metal heads to squeeze on. Pics are on my other computer at work will have to post them here anyone else have a wilderness tent I just bought the 16X20 was nice except for the cheap @$$ zipper heads. I hade a water proof bag with a nice zipper I pinched the head on to get through the season but it is a one sided zipper.

6-7 is what I am seeing in 55/551 the last few years. But the Gunnison area GMU biologists are likely to increase tags next year by about 100 tags total between the 5 units and 3-4 seasons (2/3 Rifle, Arhcery, ML). Even some very small talk of bringing back 4th Rifle, which would be amazing but I'm guessing that'll be getting up into the 8-10 points.

Congrats on the cows! How far did you have to drag to get them to the tent?

it was probably about 1000yds downhill with only a couple of deadfalls in the way and fresh snow. Worked out well compared to where I was hunting most of the time during the season.

Great job men! We have a tent similar to yours. We have a couple tarps that we put down as a floor. Works great.
