A short season it was. At first light this morning I launched a 180 grain Hornady SST through a nice cow at 265 yards. It was a double lung exit with a great blood trail.

I think anyone could have followed this blood trail, about 75 yards long.

I drew a second choice either sex tag for unit3/301. It's not an area that I have hunted for elk, and since there wasn't snow I was pretty worried about how it would turn out. Last Friday and Saturday The Grand Mesa had a pretty good storm, up to 22 inches in places. It pushed elk down into an area that I was familiar with and live next to. So, I went down to the DOW office and exchanged my 3/301 tag for a unit 41 tag since there were leftover cow tags. It saved me a bunch of gas I was able to tag a nice cow.
