For the life of me - I can't figure this thing out.
A group of billionaire team owners are angry that millionaire players are signing and accepting offers that these same owners have offered them.
Now - somehow - the players are to blame? It's ridiculous!
Under the free-enterprise capitalist system - isn't a worker worth - exactly what the owner of his company decides to offer him?
It causes me great amusement to see how a bunch of owners try and go about this attempt at union-busting - when it's they who are offering the outrageous contracts to begin with.
It's complicated no doubt - but the one group that is not to blame - are the players. They are simply reacting to market conditions - and signing the contracts they are being offered.

It's the only hockey I watch now - well, that and the local major-junior league.
Sadly...

Best thing to ever happen to Sportscenter.

are unions involved with college or high school hockey? No - they function on slave labour.

It's a communist sport anyway. Who cares?

I worked with a fellow from Texas here a few years ago. Hockey didn't even register on his radar. It was ALL football for him, but he couldn't believe the level of hockey fans here and in the northern states.

If all professional sports fell off the face of the planet I wouldn't care less.

You're half right.. But the players are equally to blame - demanding an exorbitant sum or refusing to play.. IIRC, isn't the issue here that the 'players' want over 50% of the team revenue?? If all professional sports fell off the face of the planet I wouldn't care less. I'm there.. At the same time I would miss the annual thumping the Pack gives them Queens...

are unions involved with college or high school hockey? No - they function on slave labour. That certainly applies to the junior hockey system in Canada. At least kids on college hockey teams are getting some semblance of an education.

I used to be a NFL football "FANATIC" with Sundays "reserved" for NFL Football and more specifically, the Cleveland Brown's games... but then, Art Modell moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore when he was already getting everything ($$$) inside and outside of Cleveland Stadium and had a capacity crowd at every home game every year. So, after being a Brown's fan for 40 years or more through thick and thin WITHOUT ever appearing in the Super Bowl, I kinda lost interest in NFL football... and started watching college football on Saturdays. Now I'm "hooked" on college football (GO IRISH... GO SEC) and really don't care about the NFL where Millionaires are playing for Billionaires and most of the players and the teams have about as much loyalty to one another as a horny "tom" cat on the prowl. I'll agree that the college guys aren't as "polished" as the pro's, but then the teams aren't "cookie-cutter" teams either! Don't cha wish THIS is all we had to worry about?!? Strength & Honor... Ron T.
It's smart to hang around old guys 'cause they know lotsa stuff...

We've got 4 NHL'ers playing for the local semi-pro team in Anchorage and all are from Alaska.
Screw the NHL, let them have their lock-out.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

This is the team I grew up with and enjoyed the games with my dad. Of course, the NCAA made them change their name even over Indian protests.

If all professional sports fell off the face of the planet I wouldn't care less. This. F pro's, F hollywood, and F the major networks. Go support and watch a HS or college team. Anyone grown man who gets gung ho over a pro team is half a [bleep] IMO.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.
