Looking for a 1000 yard scope with the dot and I am thinking this as about as good as I can afford. Any body got/ using one ?? How are the adjustments for repeatability ? Anything you don't like about it ? Planning on it being on my 280 AI. Will it hold up to this ?? It is just for fun and shooting gongs "out there". WHATCHATHINKING ??

If you want a dot, but also want a bit more flexibility, I would suggest the MoA reticle which has a nice small floating dot, and excellent exposed turrets. I have the 6-24 version and it is a great scope. A friend has the 8-32 with the mil dot, also a great scope. Mechanically and optically, both work very well.

I have the SIII 8-32x56 LRMOA

Tracks geat. Sighted in my new 338 Lapua in two shots. My only complaint is the turrets turn too easy and get spun out of position every time we transport it. Clarity and brightness are really good.

I have one on top of my 7STW. Tracks better than anything I've ever seen. Glass is excellent. 250 yard target.

Hate not keeping up with the traffic in a conversation, but I must ask: Are you guys talking about an 8-32X or an 8X32?

8-32X....... long range rig. I was thinking about a Nikon Monarch 8-32 but noticed it ain't got poop for long range comeups... I think like 20 minutes total. The sightron 8-32 has 70..... I think. Sorry for the confusion. My bad.

Lycanthrope... How are the adjustments on your scope ?? Do you think they are too easy to turn ?? Had any problems like HiredGun ??

The Sightron 8x32x has 70, but from the optical center that's 35. I use a Nightforce 20 moa base. That can get me out past 1500 yards, if I could every get good enough to shoot that far.

I haven't had trouble with the turrets moving on me. (I've had scopes jump a click during recoil on light magnums before) The turrets are rather large so I could see how they could get bumped, but I think that's a function of most open turrets. I always make a habit of checking the indicators. I've used half a wind of electrical tape in the past on the windage turrets of lesser scopes that turned easy. I find the Sightron to be firm and positive. Mine's rather new, so it's possible they may soften up.

Mine is brand new. They don't spin real easy but when up against your leg in the truck you can feel them move once in awhile. Night Force dials move too. I just wish they were a little stiffer. My son drew blood with it Saturday on a young 5x5 elk.

YA, this is just for fun. My son got me to quit shooting paper @ 100 yards and start looking farther down range and then a buddy shows up with his new 300 win bench gun and we went out to 600 yards on gongs and now are waiting for the opertunity to go on out. I want to kill a deer in excess of 500 yards this January in Iowa's doe season. I can now get out to about 890 yards but with the bow hunters all aroun they might get a little pissy if I go to launching the Amaxs down range, ha !! A little too much string noise for them I guess !!

I can easily crush a 10" gong at 550 yards and then zero back to 100 yards with my setup. It's basically a "freebie".

My son-in-law used to do that regularly with his Savage 7Mag till he shot out the barrel. His scope is a Tasco Trajectory model 4-16X40. His gong is an old used two pound propane bottle at 598 yards. It is boringly repeatable.
